Quicklook will not play audio files

Pressing the space bar will not audition audio files. It will play the audio from a video, but audio files will not sound.

Quicklook works for me on audio files. Give this a try: boot into Safe Mode according to How to use safe mode on your Mac and test to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE 1: Safe Mode boot can take up to 3 - 5 minutes as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

NOTE 2: if you have a wireless keyboard with rechargeable batteries connect it with its charging cable before booting into Safe Mode. This makes it act as a wired keyboard as will insure a successful boot into Safe Mode.

Have you installed and run any "cleaning", "optimizing", "speed-up", anti-virus or VPN apps on your Mac?

Ive given up.... but I will give more detail. Im using a Focusrite 18i20 audio interface as my system sound. Using external sound from my mac mini... quicklook works... it just wont work for some reason with my focusrite. It used to, but just abruptly stopped. Very frustrating. I do audio post for a living. So after Ive done a bunch of mixes and I just want to quickly listen using quicklook, the focusrite stopped working. My solution and seemingly the fastest way to listen to files without dragging them into protools is use the VLC player. It opens extremely fast. And for the record, Im not on Monterey, which was my mistake when I started this post. Im on Sonoma running on an I7 Intel Mac mini (2018). For whatever reason.... quicklook will play sound for any video file. Its just audio files that wont make sound using the focusrite... although they will sound when using the external headphones or onboard mac mini speakers. Seems like this is a focusrite issue... but it's been working forever, not sure what changed. Recently I added a midi keyboard (akai mpk mini). Its got no sound card, but could be confusing the system somehow. Anyway, Im not even going to care about this issue anymore. Ive got to get back to work. I'll be upgrading at the end of the year anyway and preparing for a bunch of new problems. :-)
