Direct connection using USB-C from an old MacBook Pro to a new MacBook Air

I would like to use the Migration Assistant to transfer about a terabyte of data with a wired connection from the 2016 MacBook Pro to a new 2024 MacBook Air. Can I just use a straight USB-C cable for this direct connection?
