deleting backups to make room for new backup
On my iphone 13 I have 5 GB and right now it is almost full with backups. What would the option to turn off and delete from icloud do?

Please note that after deleting the backup, you won't have any backup at all. I would recommend that you do backups on a computer instead (Mac or Window PC) in order not to use your iCloud storage: Back up iPhone - Apple Support.
Another option, would be to subscribe to a larger storage iCloud plan.
