New Iphone Order - How do I get an "unlocked" phone?

All iPhones sold directly by Apple are unlocked, unless you use financing through a carrier (and get a discount from the carrier).

Generally if the order information says "connect with other carriers" that would mean it is unlocked, but you should contact the reseller from whom you will be ordering and talk to them directly so you're sure you're getting exactly what you want.

When you pre-order your new iPhone, if you choose a specific carrier, that iPhone will be locked to that carrier. However, if you select “connect with other carriers,” you can easily switch and choose carriers later on.

Selecting that option will get you an unlocked iPhone unless the seller makes a mistake.
