So far, what seems to help is allowing extra seconds for the connection to take place. I will open the AirPod case, wait for the pic to appear and then wait for the pic to animate. Then I take the earbuds out of the case and again wait for the pic to change. Then, I place the earbuds in my ears and that usually works. If I try to go faster than that (like I used to be able to), then I only get to play music while all other Siri/AirPod functions are not available. If I wait like described, then I get full functionality most every time.

I was hoping that Apple would fix the bug with the update to iOS 18.2, but the bug still exists on iOS 18.2.

just upgraded my phone to a 16 and nothing I try allows me to connect my AirPods Pro 2. Tried everything. They connect to everyone else fine. V. 18.2

I have The exact same problem. I’ve upgraded to iPhone 16. And now my AirPods Pro two will not connect at all. Pretty fed up about it.
Mine is off and has been off and it’s still happening with my AirPods Pro
Sadly, iOS 18.5 didn't fix the problem. Hello, Apple? Is anyone there? Fix the problem, please!

2nd generation airpods pro, with iOS 18.2, airpods pro started to be interrupted in all phone calls. I didn't have this problem before, I corresponded with live support and they told me to reset the airpods every time.
