Is it Safe to Update iPhone 13 Pro Max to iOS 18?

Hey everyone,

I have an iPhone 13 Pro Max, and I'm thinking of updating it to iOS 18. Before I do that, I wanted to ask if anyone has experience with this update on the iPhone 13 Pro Max. Are there any known issues or performance problems I should be aware of? Would you recommend going ahead with the update, or should I wait?

Thanks in advance for your advice!

iOS 18 just became available for download yesterday. If you want to see whether people are experiencing issues, you really need to wait a few days, and then look for reports here and on Mac news sites.

As to whether to install iOS 18 now, that's up to you. Note that you can update from iOS 17 to iOS 18 but that once you do, it will not be possible to go back to iOS 17.

I have the same phone and updated last night. I am the only one in our house and on our plan that did and my phone is legit having issues while they are not. iMessage issues, pages and apps won’t load, etc. I have done the hard reset and turned it off and on. It’s acting like something isn’t “connecting” quite right. 10/10 would not recommend.

I use an Iphone 13 and do some very intensive gaming on it along with some work stuff and IOS 18 has definitely helped my base model iPhone 13 run a lot smoother and not lag nearly “as” much when I’m gaming which has been very nice for screen recording my games and such. If you wanna wait a few more days that’s totally fine but it has definitely helped my phone.

Yes I also heard the same, that do not update iPhone 13 max pro to latest OS else screen will be green.

before few days ago my iPhone 13 max pro screen got freezed and multiple time I restarted but faced same issue. The person said that this is happening in most of iPhone 13 series. I am not sure why it happens and not sure if apple updates affecting on this or enforced user to buy latest phone. :)

This issue has been there for years together now. Multiple users, especially 12 to 14 series had reported green screen issue. I can confirm that because my 13 pro max phone got the green screen issue about 18 months back, luckily for me it was under the one year warranty period and so got the display replaced for free.

Further, when was in the service center I could see a lot of customers queuing up for same issue and many of them were denied free screen replacement because of out of warranty and were asked to pay up.

So to summarize, if you are luckily then your device wouldn’t get the issue. The best thing to do is not to update right now and only update to 17.7

Anyways, the device is not going to get the much hyped AI features which is available even in a basic android phone nowadays ( Apple says neural engine, processor etc.,).

Hard earned money, think about this as well - Compare with Google tensor processor which supports Gemini AI or a Snapdragon processor on Samsung devices in the same or little less price range.

Certainly! Here’s a more professional version:

It is often observed that after updating an iPhone, the device may experience performance issues, potentially leading users to feel compelled to purchase a new phone. This has led to concerns about whether Apple intentionally designs updates to negatively impact older devices in order to encourage new purchases.

While updates generally aim to enhance security and introduce new features, they can sometimes place additional demands on older hardware, which may result in slower performance. This issue has raised discussions about the possibility of planned obsolescence.

For users experiencing performance problems, options such as resetting the device, managing storage, or exploring whether a software downgrade is feasible might be worth considering.

It is essential to weigh the benefits of updates against potential impacts on device performance to make informed decisions about maintaining or replacing your device.
