Is it Safe to Update iPhone 13 Pro Max to iOS 18?

Hey everyone,

I have an iPhone 13 Pro Max, and I'm thinking of updating it to iOS 18. Before I do that, I wanted to ask if anyone has experience with this update on the iPhone 13 Pro Max. Are there any known issues or performance problems I should be aware of? Would you recommend going ahead with the update, or should I wait?

Thanks in advance for your advice!

I propose to anyone with iPhone 13, to wait quite a while before he downloads IOS 18 or 18.1. I did a mistake, and did download it, and immediately had issues. Many calls in, go straight to some unknown answering machine. quite a few function do not work, the screen get stuck quite frequently . After taking my sim card to a spare iPhone for a few days, I received a msg from apple that iOS 18.0.1 would add the necessary patches to repair the faulty functions. I made another mistake, downloaded iOS 18.0.1, almost nothing changed. So wait until all bugs are well solved

I am using an iPhone 13 Pro Max, and I recently updated it to iOS 18.1.1. For the first two days, everything was fine. However, on the third day, while using it in the morning, my iPhone experienced a green screen issue. I tried fixing it myself by following tutorials on YouTube, but eventually, I had to send it for repair. 🥲 I ended up paying RM350 for the repair.

Now I’m afraid to update my iPhone again because the repair technician mentioned that this issue might happen again if I update the software.

If you are using iOS 17, you must have ignored all of the feedback from users telling you that they regret installing it and warning you against installing it yourself.

The same feedback appears with every new iOS version that Apple introduces.

And yet, things very likely went just fine when you installed iOS 17, as they did for about a billion other users when they installed iOS 17.

If you want the most up to date security for your iPhone, it would be a good idea for you to install iOS 18.

I use an Iphone 13 and do some very intensive gaming on it along with some work stuff and IOS 18 has definitely helped my base model iPhone 13 run a lot smoother and not lag nearly “as” much when I’m gaming which has been very nice for screen recording my games and such. If you wanna wait a few more days that’s totally fine but it has definitely helped my phone.

iOS 18 was released over two months ago (September 16th). It is "safe". Whether or not you will like all of the changes is something only you can answer. Take a look at what people are talking about in the forums. The change most people seem to have strong opinions about is the redesign of Photos. Some people hate it; some people really like it.

Yes I also heard the same, that do not update iPhone 13 max pro to latest OS else screen will be green.

before few days ago my iPhone 13 max pro screen got freezed and multiple time I restarted but faced same issue. The person said that this is happening in most of iPhone 13 series. I am not sure why it happens and not sure if apple updates affecting on this or enforced user to buy latest phone. :)

I upgraded my 13 Pro Max to iOS 18, and the only issue I noted was that my already lowish battery capacity went from 80% to 79%, and now I'm getting the battery service alert. Just a coincidence I suppose.

The battery health number isn't terribly accurate. When you do a major update, it gets recalibrated. So, the change in the number may be related to the update, but that's all. It also may be a coincidence that your battery health went from 80% to 79.9% at the same time you updated. And that would show as 79%.
