iPhone lagging after iOS 18 Update

After today’s update, I’m facing immense lagging issue with the UI, while playing games ( graphics as Average) and typing pauses. System had utilised only 50% storage. What’s the suggested solutions?

I’m experiencing this too, and I found this article with a suggestion that worked: https://www.idownloadblog.com/2023/04/07/how-to-fix-slow-search-on-iphone/

Toggle Search off and on

  1. Go to iPhone Settings and tap Siri & Search.
  2. Scroll down and turn off all the switches you see in the screenshot below.
  3. Restart your iPhone.
  4. Go back to Siri & Search settingsand turn on the switches. After this, Spotlight Search should work as intended.

This makes sense that it works because after an OS update, Siri updates its search index for your phone messages, mail, and apps. It can take a long time and while it’s working in the background, apps slow down and searching can take longer than usual, and you might notice Photos.app says that it’s not syncing to iCloud because it is “optimizing system performance.” To help it along, I also made sure to turn off low power mode and plug in my phone so that the phone can run these long tasks as quickly as possible.

This comment is in reply to a previous comment about Resetting Keyboard Dictionary. *SOLVED!

I have a semi new iPhone 8 SE and recently updated, immediately started having crazy frame drops and totally abnormal sluggish processing while playing games, it would happen about once a minute and it was really frustrating! Searched for days looking for a fix and almost gave up hope until I saw this comment! After doing these steps I haven’t had a single noticeable drop in performance. Thank you!

The iPhone 16 is native to the new iOS 18, it is literally what the phone was built for, but all the other lineups (as you said, iPhone 14 pro) are not. You need to wait for patches, iOS 18.1 etc... for your older iPhone to actually work without lags, bugs, battery drops, frame drops etc... That's why they offer iOS 17.7 alongside with iOS 18. You don't need to buy a new phone, you just need to wait.

Apple keeps removing my posts- please Apple do not keep removing my posts to hide the extent of this issue!

  • did the latest ios 18 update and its fried my iPhone 11- logged a sticker with Apple support who are telling me to take it into a repair centre as what I have are known issues with the ios18 that’s impacting some people’s phones
  • my phone light, rear lense and camera function all immediately stopped working after the iOS 18 update
  • i tried to isolate if it was a hardware or software issue by downloading a seperate camera app and the rear camera lense works fine
  • likewise for the torch. So this is an ios18 issues
  • additioanlly bow my keyboard is laggy in all apps never used to be
  • chrime runs incredibly slow and freezes or pauses despite internet speed test of 40-100 Mbps speeds - never did this before the iOS 18 update
  • asked to roll back and Apple refused
  • very dissappinted with apple
  • it would seem their update has made my phone run consdiereably slower. And unusable
  • I suggest people google if Apple iOS updates have done this before and how many people have been impacted and what people have done to remedy

apple this is my fourth post on this please stop deleting my posts

i’ve updated the iOS to 18.0 on my iPhone 14 Plus, I’ve been seeing too many glitches where I log onto my phone to the main screen and switch over the pages to get to an app and it goes blue. Another issue my contact in messages show phone numbers rather than the contact name until I open the direct message and it shows the name instead of their number.

I remember years ago I was told never to download the first IOS to wait for the .1 or .2 to then update because .0 will always have glitches. Apparently it is true so far. I have even tried to turn off my phone and restart it but it still does the same thing.

same!! Also have a 15 pro max not even a year old and updated to iOS 18 last night. After my phone has been super laggy/glitchy. Examples like loading pages/sites on safari is taking forever, the widget for Apple News isn’t even showing anything and says “Apple News is offline” but if I click on it Apple News opens up like usual and I used Apple Maps for directions today for the 1st time (hooked up to my car) after the update and it took soooo long for it to load the directions and when I decided to take a different route than what Apple Maps wanted me too it freaked out and went into the load screen for a couple min trying to give me new directions. That has never happened before where it’s taken that long to find new directions, and I even had full service, before even when I’ve barely had service it found new directions pretty much instantly . It just seems like everything is so much slower now than it used to be and it’s not like my storage is close to being full or anything, I currently have 142 GB out of 256.

About a month later: 18.1 did not bring relief but the system is *slightly* less laggy. Persisting problems:

CAMERA continues to hang up and is the most frequent cause for initiating restart. The camera might appear to snap a shot but none is saved. (40GB storage space on the phone with 2T iCloud backup & storage optimization on)

Inability to MULTITASK: e.g. listening to music (an album saved on the phone so theoretically required less resources) and turning on the camera instantly freezes the system.

Issues with CALLS: regular but mostly WhatsApp - if receiving a call after having used other apps, like reading mags, chances are the call won’t come in smoothly ( inability to hear or be heard).

ISSUES I AM SEEING LESS OFF: Fewer instances of sticky keys, seem to be able to type normally. Dictation ok.

I have an iPhone SE20 in good condition. Ever since updating to iOS 18, the performance has been abysmal. Things like starting safari where I have no active tabs, and watching, whilst over 20 seconds are needed for it to load the thumbnails and icons of the bookmarks.

Tapping on a notification causes very noticeable pause and lag for the entire UI whilst the phone tries to get to what the notification was linking to.

It's appalling just how poorly iOS 18 is performing. I have disable all Apple Intelligence features that are available (or that I can reach) to 1, not have them interfering, and 2, in an attempt to keep the phone doing as little as possible.
