Where did the Camera Roll go in iOS 18

I do NOT like what Apple did to the Photos in iOS 18... I can not find the Camera Roll. Closest is Recent Days, but it does not show all the pictures that were on the Camera Roll. I have to use a third party app on my PC to see the photos. I think Apple screwed up somewhere. Come on Apple, put Camera Roll back the way it used to be and the way it should be.

I found it... I re-read razmee209 first reply to me and he said Camera app.

Open the Camera app and in the bottom left corner is a small picture beside the click button, tap on that small picture, once opened, it doesn't say Camera Roll, which would be helpful if it did, and all the Camera Roll pictures are there and if you tap the All Photos at the top, your entire library would show.

It'll take time to get used to it after all the years the Camera Roll was in Photos.

I’ve tried and tired to use the new Photos add for the last 4 days, but the more I use it, the more frustrated I get. Each task is far more convoluted that the previous Photos, and just not well thought out. Especially if you’re someone that puts in the effort to organize your photos on the desktop into albums, and sync them back the phone. It’s an epic fail, much worse than the maps fiasco from years past. I’m at the point I’m returning my 16PM, and going back to my 14PM running 17.

Is this Apple’s “New Coke” moment?

I agree entirely. I currently have 84,000 photos on my iphone - ongoing daily. The majority of which are in carefully produced titled folders which I can access as required. I don’t need these images on my camera roll! Camera Roll is Camera Roll - not Camera Roll Plus Plus Plus! It’s just extra pollution!

Apple please allow clarity to prevail again - as before. Douglas

I’m here because there’s a problem with the photos app. With IOS 18.0 , when you pull cards off of SD card , they used to go into a separate IMPORT folder. It’s not there anymore and now they are tossed into my normal pics. This is a problem because it’s hunting season and I literally upload at least 20,000 pics a month . We need imported pics to go to its own imported slot. I can’t believe Apple did this

I totally agree - Camera Roll is sacred - I don’t need Apple’s idea of what is important to Me! I have 84,000 photos all in my iphone mostly already categorised in folders which I have specially created and synced.

I don’t want to have to negotiate those albums on my camera roll. Keep it simple Apple as before.

Camera roll is Camera Roll - not All Roll ! !

Photos is totally trashed. Bring the old manager back.

cannot easily see all recent photos taken without seeing all photos in all albums. I don’t want to see saved. Nor mixed up with all my album photographs.

if a recent photo is favourited, it still gets deleted in group select deletions.

When a favourited photo is deleted, it also loses its favourite status, making it even harder to find your favourites that got deleted among recent bulk selection.

What a mess!

Is there any other 3rd party app than can manage photos better?

It’s awful. Just awful. I liked having the albums tab, the library where everything is date ordered but also the camera roll where it’s all sorted by date added. The tabs kept it clean and easier to manage. It also meant I could view a photo in an album but also then see it in the library. The new layout is suffocating and so annoying.

mine took a couple days and finally completed, supposedly does it at night when on the charger. I had another issue also, all my synced pictures would show like they were on the map function, but when you clicked down they weren’t there. Currently working with Apple tech on that one. Gave them lots of info and engineering reviewing it if anyone is having a similar issue. It’s just my synced pictures having the issue.

I noticed something interesting though, when I delete photos using MS photos, they are gone from the library on my phone but they do not appear in the recently deleted folder.

The same thing happens if I import photos from my iPhone to the Mac Photos app via the Mac Finder. Mac Photos allows one to specify whether the imported photos should be deleted from the iPhone. To my shock, I've discovered that if one specifies that they should be deleted, they do not appear in the iPhone's Recently Deleted album. I don't know whether this behaviour is new to iOS 18.
