Mail is very slow downloading in iOS 18

Shockingly slow mail

download mail. I have given up now & use Gmail app directly. It instantly downloads my mail. This has happened only since IOS update 18.2 . I’m using iphone16

Same here. Apple said the same to me “nobody else has this problem”. I deleted my Mail account then reinstalled it and it fixed the problem for a couple of months. Now it’s bad again.

Apple really needs to fix this issue. The other thing that has happened is my business partners emails are now going to my spam folder. I changed nothing. I’ve spoken to techs for 3 days but nobody can fix the issue. It’s frustrating.

For me this started with the update from 18.1.1 to 18.2.

Mail shows xx unread messages, then after a while Downloading xx mails, then nothing happens for a very very long time and then the mails occur.

I tried to reboot and even to delete and re-setup the accounts, both with no effect.

I use to small providers with „normal“ imap and smtp servers.

Same problem here on IPad Air 5th gen. Must have coincided with the update to 18.2. Emails are received but the content takes forever to download. Same problem with exchange and pop accounts so not a fault with Microsoft.

If the iPad were my only device this would be devastating!

Same here on both MacOS 15.2 and IOS 18.2. Have tried deleting accounts and recreating, rebuilding inboxes and still unreliable at downloading new messages. Sometimes instant but most of the time takes hours or days to see new emails. Tried email prefix changes, Email privacy disabled etc. Same accounts work fine in other mail clients so having to use those for now.

Same problem with iPad and iPhone since installing ios18. Tried all the suggestions on this thread and nothing helps. Doesn’t matter if it’s Wi-Fi or cell. Gmail works fine but xfinity does not, takes 2-3 minutes for each email content to load. Loaded iOS 18.4 today and still no fix. When is Apple going to acknowledge and fix this?

iOS 18.2 (22C152), even the simplest of pure text mails will load pretty much indefinitely when opening. Preview in list is fine, but once I open the mail, I’m stuck on loading

Latest iOS is ok except email downloads takes forever as others report here. I only have an iPhone but it’s always been nearly instant downloading email until now. I’m on iOS 18.2.

My mail worked fast until IOS 18---now it takes forever to update on iPhone 14 pro max. When I say slow like 5 minutes to download, really terrible. I can go on my MacBook pro and boom it loads much faster. Told apple and was told no one else complained. Boo hoo---I am telling you the truth and this needs to addressed!!!

Same here, it takes so long to download the email.

i also got problems deleting my email. When I highlighted selected emails, then choose “ move” then I can’t select “ trash message” because it keeps taking me back to previous page.

Since the iOS 18 update, my iPad takes forever to download email. I do not have that problem on my other Apple devices, which are not running that update.

I am begging Apple to please admit they have a problem and fix it.

This issue has made apple mail unusable on my iPad. Actively looking for a new email client and for customer service that Apple used to be known for. I use my iPad for business and this is costing time and money with no response or accountability from Apple. We pay a premium for Apple devices and services and expect a premium experience, not the blame the user run around.

why don’t you let downloading mails if we want? It’s our decision how much space we will assign to local mail. Why should I wait for mail 5 minutes? This was 20 years ago (maybe).

I just tested MAIL APP and office365 web mail in Safari. I’ve got approximately 500 mails in 2 seconds with all attachments included and ready to open ASAP (office365 in Safari), and let’s say the same number of results in MAIL app, but no option to see mail content wit attachments for at least 3 minutes. USELESS.

I can just conclude that Apple would like us to move from native app to alternatives.

I think commenting on the forums is what may generate the traffic to have Apple address the issue. What is odd is I don't have this issue on my phone, which you would think, the code for mail is very similar between the phone and iPad versions.

I’ve experienced the same thing on both my iPhone 15 and iPad Air. It sits at ‘Connecting’ for ages before it gets to ‘Checking…’. Apple need to fix this ASAP. Note that I am using 18.1.1 software.
