Turn off "Hide IP Address" located in "Settings - Apps - Mail - Privacy Protection" .
That solved my problem, thank you.
There is a good explanation in the settings explaining what is done and why.
The short version: External content is loaded in a private mode, not when you open the mail but in the background, that's why you se the big delay.
I could not agree more about Apple mail, across all my Apple devices, has gotten painfully slow. It’s near impossible to conduct business, telling a Sender I’ve received their email, but I can’t read it until the content is downloaded. I’ve tried many suggestion and nothing seems to work.
Apple, PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT
I tried the IMAP Path Prefix fix but it doesn't appear to have helped (I am running 18.1.1). The main issue appears to be the time taken for the initial connect to the IMAP server. Note that this seems to be affecting people who use Gmail primarily but are there others with the same issues?
Further to my most recent email regarding the time to connect to the IMAP server, I have noticed a similar problem with Outlook (16.16.27 201012 - yes I know it is old :-) on my MacBook. Maybe Google has made a change to Gmail around the same timeframe?
I’m having the same issue with lots of time spent in the “Connecting…” phase after updating to iOS 18.1.1 on my iPhone 15 Pro. The proposed solution here unfortunately did not help, even after a phone restart.
Same here: very slow downloads on my iPad since updated to iOS 18.
However, it is lightning fast on my brand new iPhone 15, running iOS 18.
Strange isn’t it? It’s almost like upgrades are designed to make your existing equipment perform poorly so you will buy new equipment. Hmmmm.
I’m experiencing slow email on my iPhone 15 Pro and my ipad 13 “. It become clearer that it’s become slow since upgrading to the latest OS on both
This has clearly become a workflow issue that Apple is needing to address
Maybe it’s just me, I’m experiencing slow mail on all my Apple devices running the latest IOS (18) or OS. With no success I’ve tried deleting and adding back my email account (not Gmail), and updated the email account settings (adding the “/“). This problem, that others have reported here with slow email continues.
As said here and elsewhere more than once - Apple needs to acknowledge the problem exists and come up with an actionable solution ASAP. Please
Also struggling with Comcast/Xfinity email accounts with iOS 18+ on iPad and iPhone. Previously uninstalled and reinstalled mail accounts, which didn’t help. Have just now tried the IMAP / suggestion and will see how that goes. Next will try privacy protection suggestion.
Everything is fine on my old PC laptop with Outlook 365 resident on computer though.
I am having the slow email loading problem since upgrading to 18.2.1 but I cannot find your setting to change to try to fix the problem. I navigated the settings using your suggested path but (on my Apple iPad) NO “Account Settings > Advanced > IMAP Path Prefix” is displayed on my iPadOS 18.2.1 .
I too am experiencing this problem of very SLOW loading of e-mails while using the Apple “Mail” app. This significantly slower loading seems to have started with my recent update to iOS/iPadOS 18.2.1.
Hello! I have a problem with the native Mail application after upgrading to the new version of iOS 18.2.1 with the iPhone 12 Pro Max phone model. A mailbox running on Kerio Connect software from Kerio Technologies is set up in the corporate environment. The problem is as follows: when receiving emails with attached files, the attachments do not load for a long time. I used the Internet connection and Wi-Fi with a speed of over 200 MB/s and a stable 5G connection. There were no such problems before the update. We also completely deleted the mail program, deleted the account from the phone, on other devices of different models (15 pro max, 16 pro max), the latest iOS is installed everywhere, the result is the same, the attached files are not downloaded for a long time. There are no such problems with other mail applications, but using them is absolutely not suitable for me, I only need the native Mail application.
Since November, 2024, both our iPads and our two iPhones (SE & X) have experienced VERY slow downloads of emails, sometimes after fast loading of the author's name but then very slow downloading even one line of text! I've time some at 2 1/2 minutes. Prior to November even emails with a reasonably large attachment would download in a few seconds on a 400mbps connection. Has any solution been announced?
Thanks for your suggestion but it didn’t work for me. I tried your suggestion on all my devices - iPhone, iPad, and iMac but it made no difference. I appreciate your suggestion.
I’ve tried many suggestions from this forum but nothing is working for me.
I need this fixed by Apple. It’s humiliating. I can’t have this happen. I will lose work over this.
I’m in a meeting with a client and get asked to open an email and it can take 10-15 mins to load and often it doesn’t load at all. It’s embarrassing and it looks like I’m unprepared and I am never unprepared. I can’t work with this.
Thanks for letting me vent.
None of the new releases and none of the suggestions work for me. I’ve rebooted more times than I can count. I’ve installed new cables and a new modem. I’ve done dozen of speedtests. This started with IOS 18 and now it takes a few seconds to download a subject line and minutes to download a single line message. This is not good support from Apple.
I use Comcast and am still struggling. If you, or anyone else, has ideas for how to "re-accelerate" Apple Mail for a Comcast email account, I'd appreciate them. Otherwise, I'll probably have to go to Outlook mail.
