Understanding read receipts!

I am just trying to better understand when/why certain messages say read vs. delivered! These two messages come within a few minutes of one another and I’m just trying to better understand why one would say “delivered” while one says “read” unless the receiver of these texts chose to turn off read receipts? Any additional information is helpful and I appreciate it!

Delivered means the message was delivered to the recipient.

Read means it has been seen by the recipient.

Sending a “read” receipt is optional and completely at the discretion of the recipient. Read receipts are not on by default. They must be manually enabled by the recipient. Most people I know, including myself, do NOT enable read receipts.
