iOS 18 draining my battery
Last night (17/09/24) I upgraded to iOS 18 update but this morning when I started using the phone, my battery drained out very quickly - anyone had similar issues.
any solution please ?

It’s the photos app. I’ve had things like background app refresh, dictation and location turned off for years. I have about five (non Apple) apps installed (no social media or entertainment type) and I use my iPhone 15 Pro primarily for talk and text which never accounts for more than 5% of my battery use, even on a heavy use day. I went from holding a two day charge to charging twice a day immediately after iOS 18. I noticed in Battery Heath that Photos was using 32% of my battery in the background which was alarming because I don’t use Photos in that capacity, and for the fact that I have background refresh disabled. My solution was to turn cellular data off for Photos entirely. (Settings > Apps> Photos > Cellular Data> toggle off) It’s been about a week and my battery is holding almost the same charge it did pre-update. I hope this helps!
Apple has essentially overhauled the utility app into their own version of social media, riddled with unnecessary AI and it’s working as such. Imagine it as uploading 5,000+ photos and videos to Instagram all at the same time. As long as you connect to WiFi periodically, your photo’s will continue to sync to iCloud. I don’t use the app much, but I can’t find any reason to have Photos running on cellular.
Side note: I do not connect my iPhone to WiFi on a regular basis. If you are constantly connected to WiFi, this fix likely won’t work for you as the app will continue to run in the background via WiFi and there is currently no way to disable this function (hence the issue).
I couldn’t agree more! I was so excited for all the new things to come from this update, but I can’t even do the basic things on my phone before it already being at 20 percent in like 5 hours. I constantly have to charge it!! Best and worst update I swear.
Found this on another thread How to Stop Battery Draining on iPhone After a Recent IOS Update and it's been a game changer, battery which was reducing 20 to 30% in 1 hour of basic usage now reduces only 15%. I will update you on which adjustment helped alot as I am currently testing on it as I don't want to disable some features so will update soon here.
I did some reading and based on bad experiences with iOS updates in the past I did not take ios18 i did ios17.7 and seems pretty normal performance and battery life maybe a little worse from 17.6 which is an excellent update. Good battery and good performance! If you can down grade fro ios18 to 17.7 you’ll get good results in my opinion
Been on iOS 18 since day 1 of launch on my iPhone 12 Pro and can confirm that the battery is draining faster than when I was on the latest version of iOS 17. I’d say it’s as bad as the earlier versions of iOS 17… hope they resolve this in subsequent updates
I used to get a minimum of 1 day and a half of battery life on iPhone 14 pro which was great btw, now I can barely finish the day after installing iOS 18, I think this Apple's new strategy to "encourage" customers to upgrade to iPhone 16..
Shocking! Same here I update two days ago and my batterie is draining hardcore as well! I just bought the new IPhone 16 Pro Max which arrived today ans my IPhone 15 Pro Max is loosing power like crazy now. Batterie Health is down 5% in two days. Has anyone managed a fix here?
I am supposed to sell my IPhone 15 Pro Max. Which now is going to be a time game! Please advise.
Updated on my iPhone 15 Pro on Monday...no improvement yet after 4 days...it is draining the battery. Charging is also getting paused because of overheating while on the charger. Never this disappointed with apple.
So we’re going to have to wait a month or two for this next update our batteries will be fried by then.. smfh come on apple I thought you were better than this good way to lose Customers why do you want an iPhone that only last a couple hours when we could get a android I’d rather not but if I have to I will
Same to me, once I upgrade IOS 18, my phone battery drop a lot, even during I sleep, 2nd day wake up, the battery drop a lot, before upgrade, I no need to charge my phone during working,(I very less use phone during working), but after upgrade I need to charge it during working 🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️, regret to upgrade 😔，Apple, pls help to expedite resolve it. Ios18 public is killing my battery Something way off! Was a beta user not really a problem but since the public release half a day at best out of battery never had a problem lasting a day in ios17! Having to use power save mode from 100%! Any ideas?
same...my iPhone 15 draining very fast especially when i have data mobile...i have install it from the very first day...waiting a couple of days if improves or waiting for 18.1... but for now my battery remains with 100% and 44 cycles since june the month that i bought the iPhone...
It's the same scenario but with the iPhone 13 mini this time. Should we downgrade the system to stable version 17 or wait for the patch that solves the problem with battery drainage, especially for slightly older devices for which AI doesn't work and only poses a real strain?

Mine is also draining rapidly, I updated to iOS 18 and now my battery doesn’t last that long. It took like 1% of my battery life. My phone was at 70% when I woke up (around 9:30am) but it just turned 10am like 20 minutes ago and now it’s at 50?? Hopefully they fix this issue soon.
I watch my battery drop from 89% to 83% over 30 minutes of just looking at the settings of the phone. Also had to put the phone down about 15 or more times as the phone is getting hot.
just for the record this is a new iPhone pro on most current iOS 18.
More testing. In the past 5 minutes just looking at settings. Lost 2% more.
top app usage is chase mobile app. But it has 1 minute of screen time and no background updates. Just making this post lost 2% more. @apple. Please help. I can’t hold my phone any more. It is hot
