No more iTunes Remote in watchOS 11?

Just updated SE2 and noticed the Remote app that used to control both remote iTunes libraries and Apple TV has been replaced with an ATV remote that no longer works with iTunes. I have an older Mac running Mojave as my music server, hence iTunes and not Music.

My iPhone 13 mini, updated to iOS 18, still has a Remote app that sees my server’s iTunes.

Am I missing something? Anyone know how to add back an iTunes library to the new watch remote app?

Found a (perhaps temporary) solution! Remote+ app on watch store (developer: Evgeny Cherpak) works with Music on Macbook (my machine is Air M2 running Sequia 15.0). It requires installation on iPhone and Macbook. Before Apple fixes this issue this 3rd party app serves my purpose.

Slight drawback is it can't be added to deck on Watch (the thing that shows when you swipe up from bottom) and it takes a few clicks to get to music control.

I said "temporary" fix because the app shows "Redeem your free trial" so not sure if this requires payment after the trial period. can't find info about this on app.

Hope this helps

ps. spent 40 mins on the phone with Apple Support. they seemed to have finally understood this issue and promised will get back to me.

FWIW the new Remote app in wOS11 doesn’t see my ATV4K either half the time, even though they’re both awake and in the same room. It’s a big regression from the wOS10 Remote app, which was rock solid for me for controlling iTunes and ATV.

I don’t understand why they put resources into ever-fuglier watch faces but not testing new features before release.

I have the same issue on ULTRA 2 with iOS 11, while the iTunes remote it is still working on 9 with iOS 10 and iPhone 15 IOS 18, so would not update to new iOS on the 9 until apple finds a solution. It seems that after calling a few times only a few support people understand that app Music to get a good resolution you need to go via wire and not BT/AIR PLAY...

They should offer and alternative solution to control the Music from PC/Mac from the Watch...

As other members have said HUGE MISS!!!

FYI running mini MAC Apple Music/Qobuz as a source - output to a external DAC that is wired speakers.

If anybody comes out with a good alternative solution it will be great sharing it.

Spoke to several of the support team, basically they all said that they can't help and I should write here and on feedback for the specialist team...

in other words there is no solution at the moment...

also, I find very difficult and time consuming explaining the all issue because many not all do not understand of they are not familiar with high resolution 24/48 o 16/48...

even when I bought the Air Pods Max in the store there were not able to respond if airplay 2 was capable to go over 16 bit ...they were looking in the Air Pods Max specs instead the answers were on the Music section of the site...

I'm also disappointed controlling music on my Macbook seems to have disappeared. Hoping somebody posts a solution here.

It is interesting that the Remote app only shows Apple TV's I happen to be near at that moment. If I move near my 2nd Apple TV box, then it only shows that one. Am wondering if there's something I need to enable on my MBP to allow it to be 'seen' by the Remote app.

I am having the exact same issue: I can’t even get the remote to connect to Apple TV. I have 4 of them, all updated to the latest SW and all hard wired. I am sitting directly below my access point. iPhone speed test showing 519 MBps down. My watch is not finding any of Apple TVs. One of them will appear in the list for a second, then go away. If I try and select it once it appears it says it can’t connect. Plus not being able to connect to control Apple Music is a real step backward and makes no sense.

Same issue. Apple watch SE with Macbook Air M2 2022 running Sequia 15.0. Being able to control Apple Music on my Mac is an essential function for me. Not everyone has an Apple TV. The simple remote was perfect. Hope Apple Team fixes this as soon as possible.

If anyone has a solution how to control Music on Mac, it'd be most appreciated.
