I had the same issue with sounds not working on my apps.

turns out that I had to go into control panel, under what’s playing I had to set it to iPhone, it was set to my hearing aids. After that, sounds worked just fine.

Yeah.., everyone same problem with this ios18, why you guys don’t fix this issue? We pay this phones a lot of money, then support zero, nobody cares …who’s eating the Apple? Already 2 updates since 18 comes out, and still same issue, at least if the speaker cut after minimizing the app, get back on same volume if the app is reopened again, why cut the volume and remain very slow even you open the same app after 2 seconds… have not sense really! This is happening on all the apps on Music and Videos features… really annoying!

I stopped getting sounds for incoming emails after iOS18. Followed all the suggestions, no change. I use the iOS mail app with O365 and Gmail accounts. Some weeks later O365 emails started to make sounds again, but not always - e.g. an email will come in and make a sound, then 10 minutes later another one doesn't. No sounds from the Gmail account. Notifications still appear on the screen. It's ridiculous that something so simple and so important doesn't get addressed in iOS updates.

Went to Apple Store in Glasgow one of their geniuses mucked about with my phone for 30min then said it was a software issue and would get sorted in next update.

today updated to IOS 18.3.1 nothing changed no sound on gmail. 🤬🤬🤬🤬

wife updated to a iPhone 14 no sound on gmail 🤯 if gmail app is on desktop it pings but no sound from gmail.

I wish Apple would get their finger out the bum and sort this 😭😭

Well… I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. Or both. I tried deleting one of my email accounts and re-creating it - no change. Then as per Bear7962’s suggestion I deleted the Mail app, rebooted, and reinstalled it. The first pleasant surprise was that I didn’t need to recreate all my email accounts. The second was that I do now get sounds when a new email comes in - whoopeee!!! But after 2 days of joy, despair… I now don’t get any notifications on the Lock Screen when a new email comes in, so I have to unlock the phone and go into the mail app to see which account the email is in and who it’s from to decide whether I need to read it pronto. Notification settings are all correct, and it all worked correctly for 2 days after reinstalling the app…

Is it really so hard for Apple to produce an email app which works reliably? It did for years, but now it’s just buggy.

Not sure what to say, mine still works as it should. The only thing I can think of is you missed a step, I probably didn’t describe it well. I deleted Yahoo and roadrunner emails first. Then I deleted the native mail app. Reboot the iPhone. Add the native app back, its in the App store. I may have rebooted after this too, don’t remember but it can’t hurt. Then, from the page where you add a new email account (shown below) I added Yahho email back and then the roadrunner account. Both loaded with all my emails organized as they had been but I did have make sure Categories wasn’t checked. Good luck.

I understand your frustration. I was in exactly the same boat and it was from day 1 of owning a brand new iPhone. It shouldn’t be that way. And I was able, like you, to get it to work intermittently. But doing it with the one extra step in the order I did has given me back my fully functioning iPhone. I think its a corruption problem. So deleting the individual email programs first and then the native mail app solved that. (Rather than deleting both at once) I added the native app after rebooting, then the individual ones and its been over a month of working as it should.
