No sound on iPhone after iOS 18 Update

My jaybird earbuds now only play out of one earbud since updating to 18 , great work Apple , I was hoping that Apple might appear here to help us all out with the problem, that’s wishful thinking for you

got new airpod pro 2 that are suppose to help with hearing

now when I get a notification (text) it BLASTS sound and is deafening.

read forums and it says go to accessibility then To AirPods then “slide” the sound bar for notifications - problem is the bar/slider has disappeared.

yet another sound issue from the new and improved hardware and software.

Since updating my sound cuts out briefly when locking or unlocking and sometime when I move the phone, like it’s happening when the screen activates or Face ID scans or something. Same with headphones.

it’s driving me mad.

I was on a call with AS for over 4 hours, no lie! She said she would talk to her supervisor and call me on friday. This was wed of last week. It is now tues, she never called me back even though we had an appt for friday! I did everything they asked, but to no avail. I updated as previous gentleman said to 18.0.1 and nothing….the more people complain, maybe we get somewhere….good luck to all

Funny someone mentioned outlook/hotmail. I just noticed that I get sound notifications in the Mail app ONLY to my hotmail accounts. My various GMail accounts are not getting them. I checked all the pertinent settings and each are the same. So maybe it has something to do with the IOS 18 update and how it handles GMail!? I also have a Yahoo email address and same issue on Mail app, no sound notifications.

Hi JohnB1964, Just curious, are the alerts you are not getting for a hotmail account or another? I am finding I get notifications for my hotmail accounts but not my Gmail or yahoo email addresses....wonder if this is a Push/Fetch issue with the new IOS update...?

Johnny, I’m going to first try Gmail and see how that goes because my main email account is Gmail. I have also read that Edison email app is good as well as Spark email app. So there’s three options. By the way, I wrote about questioning whether the problem with no mail app sounds was a fetch/push issue in my first post several days ago, in the beginning of this thread. With that said, I am still done with iOS Mail and the total loss of functionality. Let me know if any of those email apps (or another app you pick) and I’ll let you know what works for me and what doesn’t lol! Good luck.

I'm trying the Gmail app and I do get sound alerts with it. Also seem to get new mail pushed/fetched to it ages before Apple Mail app thinks about it. Just don't like it as much as Mail app but will use it till Apple sort it out

Hi JohnB1964...Just downloaded the Outlook App....all notifications work! I would like to change the sound for New Mail notifications, but not sure if allows me to add my own clip I was using in the IOS Mail app....but hey its better than not hearing an email come in. Let's hope Apple wakes up and helps

Tattinger1980. I am using Outlook App and yes, getting lock screen notifications. Only drawback is you can only use the handful of 1-2 second sounds that Outlook allows. You cannot add your own sound. Not that big a problem but enough to hope Apple fixes their Mail App….

KellyRobison, thank you for sharing and responding to my question. I always DID receive Lock Screen notifications just no sound from the Mail app. So unless I am staring at my cellphone screen every second of the day, I never knew of any incoming emails because of no sound. I have always had it set to stack. Vocal alerts under accessibility was never set up so that didn’t apply to me. I was receiving all other notifications from all of the other apps, both third party apps and Apple apps, such as text, phone calls and voicemail, alarms, etc.

Yes to Taittinger1980 I get Lock Screen notifications with Gmail app. Only get a few crappy email alert sounds with app but better than IOS Mail which is nothing at all. Will carry on using it until Apple hopefully brings out an update?!

I am having the same issue. I also do not get my phone ringer! No idea someone called until I see the cisual VM or the notification banner. Mine started also after the ios 18 upgrade. I have tried every trick on every video and forum and NOTHING is working. I do not want to try doing the 18.0.1 upgrade as I hear that is fraught with battery life issues. I cannot believe I can no longer get any sound notifications. I refuse to delete everything at this point. I will not reset. This is ridiculous and a MOST BASIC function. How can they not figure this out????
