Trying to erase old MacBook but find my email is no longer active

I got a new MacBook and I'm trying to clear my old MacBook Pro. I updated my Apple ID email to a new email address a couple years ago. However, the "Find My Mac" feature on my old computer is still using my old email address. When I try to reset the password using that email, Apple says that email is not recognized with an account. Without that email/password, I am unable to clear the computer. Any insight?
