Missing letters on iPhone Ukrainian keyboard

Before updating to ios 18, the Ukrainian keyboard had the option to use some letters from the Russian alphabet. With a longer press of the keys "ь", "и", "є" I could easily type the letters "ъ", "ы", "э". Now this option is not available. I used the function really often in everyday life. Now I have to constantly switch between two languages. Why did you do this?

Guys! We are all bilinguals here in Ukraine. So having 1 keyboard instead of 2 was so convenient. Remember that you also have to keep English keyboard and sometimes stupid emojis for some reason. And I also had italian for some time. So many keyboards so tiring. It is not a question of our national pride it just a handy tool. Whoever never googled something in Russian language can throw a rock at me first. I have used IOS since iPhone 3g, it was so convenient and customer-biased. Can I get back to ios 17?

I don't have a Mac. I'm talking about iOS here. The developers could add the letters "і, ї, є, ґ" to the Russian keyboard and the problem is solved. They could even add more letters from other languages writing in Cyrillic alphabet and it would be like a universal keyboard for Cyrillic alphabet. Multilinguals could use the universal keyboard. And everyone would be happy. I have a Czech keyboard installed, and there are a lot of letters from other languages that are not used in Czech at all. So it's obviously not a problem to make a universal keyboard.

в середине и конце не работает. к сожалению в практике способ очень костыльный. пробую создать приложение в икс коде с расширенной кириллицей. если получится, могу поделиться результатом.

I can’t imagine bilingual Belgians requiring French letters on a Dutch keyboard, and vice versa.

In fact, an iphone keyboard like Dutch also has, directly or via long press, all the letters required for English, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Danish, Swedish, and Norwegian, and nobody cares about that. The Ukrainian/Russian history and situation are of course rather different.

I, for one, do not want these letters in the Ukrainian keyboard. First, it offends me and many Ukrainians for obvious reasons; second, these letters are not in the Ukrainian alphabet (for some reason, the Belarusian keyboard does not have hidden Щ, И, or a Ъ that is not in the Belarusian alphabet); and third, the Russian keyboard does not have hidden І, Ї, Є, Ґ, or other Cyrillic letters that are not in the official Russian alphabet. If you use the Russian language, you should use two keyboards (at least for the logic that different keyboards have different spellings).

But you don't see these letters unless you're looking for them on purpose. The letters are hidden, and you have to long press to get to them.

Log feedback.

Configure and switch to a Russian keyboard when that is needed, or use keyboard text replacement for the letters or words involved, or apps such as Ukelele or Karabiner.

etc….

I’d not expect these not-at-all-hidden Russian letters to return to a Ukrainian keyboard.

I am not sure if you know how the old keyboard used to work. Russian letters only showed up when user pressed on Ukrainian letters and held them down. They were not part of the main keyboard layout. It was super convenient. Зараз мушу встановити цілю русняву клавіатуру та бачити її навіть коли не хочу писати російською, бо вона вискакує кожного разу коли треба перемкнути з української на англійську.
