Missing letters on iPhone Ukrainian keyboard

Before updating to ios 18, the Ukrainian keyboard had the option to use some letters from the Russian alphabet. With a longer press of the keys "ь", "и", "є" I could easily type the letters "ъ", "ы", "э". Now this option is not available. I used the function really often in everyday life. Now I have to constantly switch between two languages. Why did you do this?

Guys! We are all bilinguals here in Ukraine. So having 1 keyboard instead of 2 was so convenient. Remember that you also have to keep English keyboard and sometimes stupid emojis for some reason. And I also had italian for some time. So many keyboards so tiring. It is not a question of our national pride it just a handy tool. Whoever never googled something in Russian language can throw a rock at me first. I have used IOS since iPhone 3g, it was so convenient and customer-biased. Can I get back to ios 17?

Don’t judge the world by your own perspective alone. I am not bilingual, and neither are my closest friends and family. I want to use my mother tongue without any russian influence. I can’t imagine bilingual Belgians requiring French letters on a Dutch keyboard, and vice versa. Some people value self-respect and cultural independence over convenience. If someone wants to use the russian language, they can simply use its keyboard, just as the rest of the bilingual world does.

Привет. Спасибо за ответ. А у тебя этот способ работает, даже если хочешь написать буквы не в начале слова? Например если писать "ёлка" то замена работает, но если писать "Пётр" то замену уже не предлагает.

I don't have a Mac. I'm talking about iOS here. The developers could add the letters "і, ї, є, ґ" to the Russian keyboard and the problem is solved. They could even add more letters from other languages writing in Cyrillic alphabet and it would be like a universal keyboard for Cyrillic alphabet. Multilinguals could use the universal keyboard. And everyone would be happy. I have a Czech keyboard installed, and there are a lot of letters from other languages that are not used in Czech at all. So it's obviously not a problem to make a universal keyboard.

Again, log feedback.

For iOS and iPadOS, add a keyboard and a language as you are well aware, and switch as needed.

Or acquire or create a pan-Cyrillic keyboard for yourself.

But I do not and would not expect Russian letters to ever appear on a Ukrainian keyboard.
