How to Fix iPhone 15 Pro Battery Drain After iOS 18?

Since upgrading my iPhone 15 Pro to iOS 18 yesterday, I've noticed a significant and rapid decrease in battery performance. The battery is draining much faster than usual, even during periods of minimal usage. I've checked for background processes, optimized settings, and ensured all apps are up-to-date, but the issue persists. Has anyone else experienced this after the update, or is there a recommended troubleshooting step I may have overlooked ?

guys, I just did a downgrade on ios17 I don’t have the ios18 features now but my battery is brilliant, and I can normally use my phone…I can’t believe apple does such a thing on a new phone I mean iPhone 15 Pro came last year on the market how is that considered as old….downgrade to ios17 that is the best you can do…or if you didn’t update don’t to that!

ios17 is really stable and battery and performance are no problem

!!! Do the downgrade fast, while it’s still signed, soon they will remove it !!!

Download iOS 17 File on ipsw.me and restore it on iTunes

IMPORTANT

sync all your data to iCloud, Apps and Home Screen etc. needs to be screenshoted because it’ll be deleted and you can only restore things from iCloud, Backup Restore won’t work only the Data from iCloud will be restored that does NOT include apps and lock/Home Screen wallpapers

As I mentioned in the first page or two of this thread, nothing worked for me either. I turned off ALL background processes, disabled everything but the most basic features. After spending HOURS with Apple on the phone (and people that did NOTHING to help but tell me, "No one else is reporting this issue," (even though this massive thread was here), a "senior" tech at Apple said, just re-core your devices and do not restore from iCloud backups.

It killed me because I've not done a bare metal install in years and years of new phones. Ridiculous. But I had to get working again, so I reluctantly did it. It took a week to get everything back and installed without a backup recovery. Yet I will say it worked. I've not had the flaming heat or severe battery drain since, even with my old apps installed and running normally like before.

I have NO idea why this helped since it's the same set of apps, with the same settings as iOS 17, but for some reason 18 got hosed and just made my phone feel like I was holding a portable heater. It seems to still be OK with 18.0.1. I'm not happy that I had to waste a week of time not being able to work on my phone and iPad Pro, but it seems to have worked.

In my case this was solved by simply removing all Weather App widgets.

I had already mentioned in this thread that by removing the weather widgets from the Lock Screen it had improved, but after removing it from anywhere else on the phone I went from arriving at the end of the day with an empty battery to having 60% still remaining (even better than on ios17).

It is amazing that Apple is ignoring this issue, even worse in one of their native apps!!!

I have an year old iPhone15 Plus with battery at 98% capacity with 165 cycles. I have had great experience till 17.6

Problem started after the upgrade to iOS 18 a few days back. Home and Lock Screen was like 13-15% of battery usage and it was draining like crazy. Another contributor was WhatsApp with a lot of background activity. Like many on this thread I suspected the Weather widget and removed it. Also turned off background app refresh for WhatsApp. At this moment looks like these two are the culprits. Things seem to be back to normal

Hi… after much confusion to why the last last few days I’ve found that’s the two culprits for the battery drain on my

iPhone 15 pro max seem to be related to these…

  1. Home & Lock screen
  2. Weather App (more related to the widget)

The fix which seems to be working for me..

  1. Weather app - location set - when using
  2. remove weather app from homescreen
  3. remove weather widget from homescreen
  4. remove weather from widget side panel
  5. remove weather mini widget from lockscreen
  6. restart phone

and that’s it for me and my phone is now holding its charge a better :) if only lost 1% in the last 10ish minutes typing this and logging in to this.

It's not that this time. I've experienced that in other upgrades and Apple keeps saying this but remember. We are FIVE DAYS in. My wife upgraded her 14 Pro within seconds of me and she doesn't have the issue. My son and daughter and their spouses... no issues. The only people I know with this issue are on 15 Pro series. Out of a dozen or so others I know, only two that have 15 Pros have this issue. I wish it were that simple.

Two hours with Apple support at different levels and they are hearing this from other 15 Pro series user. Even they said it shouldn't be the "normal indexing process" after these many days. Their only suggestion, wipe the device and do not restore from iCloud backup. Great. A week of resetting my phone up for work and personal use if I do that. I'm going to see if a patch fixes it and just not use it much, hoping the battery doesn't explode from the constant heat.

Same issue here with a 1 month old iPhone 15 Pro. Home & Lockscreen is draining the battery really fast.

I did not use my phone today till now and the battery is down from 80% to 65% within 12 hours. Thats way too much, with iOS 17 it did loose only like 5% for that period of time.

I will try and remove the weather widget from my home screen. If that doesnt help i will make a backup wit iTunes and restore it from there.

Same here on my iPhone 15 Pro Max. I know that OS upgrades can cause battery drain and heat at first, but my wife's iPhone 14 Pro doesn't have this issue, and she upgraded at the exact same time I did late on the 16th. And we run the same set of apps. My friends on other phone models don't have this issue. It's just me and a few on iPhone 15 Pros (standard and Max).

I can't even hold the thing it gets so hot at times. I've shut down all but the most essential background apps, which I shouldn't have to do since NOTHING ELSE CHANGED other than the OS upgrade. But I tried it anyway.

I've "booted" it so many times hoping that would reset something. I can't get 1/3 of a workday with my normal work (just reading email and work chat messages). On iOS 17 I could go from the time I woke up until the time I go to bed, let's say around 15-16 hours, and I'd still have around 50% battery. Now I can't get through just the morning before hitting that.

Plus, it is just too hot to hold. In case or out of case. Something is amiss here. I also noted that Battery is reporting that Home Screen is eating up like 90% of the battery. Everything else (dozens of apps I use in a day) are the other 10%. I've not noticed that happening before.

Very frustrating.

I experienced the same, then came across this article 7 Proven Steps to fix iPhone 15 Pro Battery Drain Issue, adjusted Siri settings, journaling suggestions, allowed just few apps for background refresh and untoggled all and followed other suggestions which I thought wasn't necessary on my phone and battery performance is now better then before. I must say apple should work on there batteries they are draining too fast as compared to other same budget android phones

iPhone 15 Pro (10 months old) battery health 94% updated to iOS 18, battery draining start with home & Lock Screen as well as weather widget for average 15% to 20% daily/per charged limited at 80%.

updated to 18.0.1, battery health dropped from 94% to 92% in less than a month. And yet home & Lock Screen as well as weather widget is draining the battery.

Apple, this is definitely iOS 18 issue, pls fix it with new iOS update before your os destroy my iPhone, and those who affected.

I tried all of these tricks and had, anyway, disables a lot of the battery draining apps because the 15 pro was so much worse than my 14 pro for battery use. I am still losing more than 50 per cent in the first four hours of use. I am going to try to return the phone to IOs 17 - seems the only option. In future - not a snowballs chance I will trust a software upgrade OR indeed a phone upgrade. the 15 pro is just not worth it
