Dictation not working after iOS 18 and keyboard issues

Ive got an iPhone 15 and recently updated to iOS 18, now dictation simply doesn't work. No matter if I remove the languages and turn off the phone and add them (Norwegian and English), then turn on and off again they simply won't work...

Also, this new "immersive" keyboard experience where you can write in several languages is literally "drowning" me in issues... I write in Norwegian and English, and in Norwegian we have three extra letters Æ,Ø and Å, so if they keyboard is currently in English I have two options to use these letters; I can either starts writing in English and then click the emoji button and it'll switch and the keyboard switches to Norwegian and I can freely use Æ, Ø and Å. Or I can long-press on A and E (where they are hidden) and slide my finger to choose the letter I need.

BUT(!), if at some point the keyboard thinks I'm writing in English and I use an emoji it'll switch back to English and I'm stuck writing in Norwegian and then emoji button and the remove the written Norwegian text and then continue... And god forbid the keyboard is already in English and I have to start a conversation with either Æ, Ø or Å, I'll either have to start by long pressing or finding another way to write that sentence, hit emoji and it'll switch...

This keyboard experience is the absolute worse! It has added writing time and lowered my effectiveness, is there any way to et the old switch back and forth button back? Cause that saved me a lot of time!

I've got the new iPhone 16 Pro Max, and I am running the new iOS 18 on it, and I find that while the dictation does work, it seems amazingly slow and sluggish. The screen struggles to keep up with me, and is always lagging far behind what I am saying.

This has been driving me crazy since I upgraded to 16 pro max and ios 18

over the weekend...i use dictation all the time...i even figured out if

i said something like "i'll see you tomorrow" right before I even

pressed the microphone button to listen to me, it would still type that

out! I fixed it for now...go to settings, siri, talk to siri, and

select/check "off"...i leave "press side button for siri" toggled

on...that way I can still use siri if I want but it's not always just

"listening". Totally fixed the lag and is now very accurate again as well.

If you have a bilingual keyboard and don't like the default, you should be able to change that by going to settings > general > keyboard > keyboards and tapping on the bilingual item. Also you should be able to go back to having monolingual keyboards by adding a new English keyboard and adding another keyboard and removing the bilingual version.

Same! I have the new iPhone 16 pro (with iOS 18)and there is a very noticeable difference from my previous phone (iPhone 12 Pro, iOS 17). There is a significant lag between speaking and seeing it on screen, and it is incorrect most of the time. I use dictation all the time and it is slowing me down significantly. Very frustrating.

Believe it or not, I reached out to Apple Support to add another set of eyes on this issue. They had me do a force restart (volume up, volume down, then HOLD for 10 seconds, the holding part is important), and voila, the issue was fixed. Apparently this refreshes the iOS and gets rid of any bugs. I thought I'd be frustrated at having to go through troubleshooting for reporting what should be a widely known issue, but I just couldnt ignore the fact that the problem was fixed. As simple as it sounds, give it a try.

P.S. I did change the Siri language to English (UK) as someone else in the forum had suggested, but the problem persisted until I did the force restart. A combination of both actions may work if one or the other does not work independently.

I finally gave up and returned the 16 Pro. The fix I mentioned previously (performing a reset) was temporary and lasted less than 24 hours. This is a first for me with Apple. Dedicated user since 1989 and this is the first time I ended up returning a product because it simply would not work properly. I rely on dictation and Siri extensively. So back to the 15 Pro until next year.
