Dictation not working after iOS 18 and keyboard issues

Same issue here and honestly it seems to have gotten worse after the latest update to 18.4. Not sure if this is an underlying issue, but I use a bilingual keyboard as well (English/Spanish), and I never had this issue prior to using a bilingual keyboard. Previous phone was a 12 pro and now I'm using a 16 pro. Thought maybe Apple intelligence was part of the issue, but doesn't seem to be. Phone reboot is the only fix I've found so far.

I reset my phone, and it fixed it for a couple of days, but now it is sluggish again. Very frustrating!!

Try adding a new keyboard.

I've got the new iPhone 16 Pro Max, and I am running the new iOS 18 on it, and I find that while the dictation does work, it seems amazingly slow and sluggish. The screen struggles to keep up with me, and is always lagging far behind what I am saying.

I agree I just got an iPhone 16 pro max and feel like it’s not suggesting words and when I hit the space bar it’s not responding the same as it was previously. Hopefully the update is coming soon to fix this issue

I have the same problem with my iPhone 14 Pro since I upgraded to iOS 18. I’ve tried different Wi-Fi networks, nothing seems to work. But simply the dictation when it works is slow, and in accurate.

It is virtually unusable. With the older iOS it was very good.

Apple this needs to be fixed

I finally gave up and returned the 16 Pro. The fix I mentioned previously (performing a reset) was temporary and lasted less than 24 hours. This is a first for me with Apple. Dedicated user since 1989 and this is the first time I ended up returning a product because it simply would not work properly. I rely on dictation and Siri extensively. So back to the 15 Pro until next year.

Same! I have the new iPhone 16 pro (with iOS 18)and there is a very noticeable difference from my previous phone (iPhone 12 Pro, iOS 17). There is a significant lag between speaking and seeing it on screen, and it is incorrect most of the time. I use dictation all the time and it is slowing me down significantly. Very frustrating.

I’m having the same issue. After downloading the new IOS 18

update, I no longer have the option to use voice dictation at all. I only have the option to record audio. There isn’t even an option to “enable voice dictation” ( as I was instructed to do via a guide I found courtesy of apple’s support section on their website).

unfortunate, as I tend to be a slow texter/typer and used voice dictation ALOT. Has anyone found a way to resolve this?

I am also having this issue. I just got the 16 Pro and it’s not working. I have to type everything now because dictation is not working. I’ve tried resetting the phone, turning dictation on and off, resetting cellular settings and nothings working. Definitely getting very frustrated. This slows down my workflow.

Factory reset or just reset? I’ve tried just doing the standard reset and still sluggish and sometimes doubling up what I’ve said and be completely different. Didn’t have the issues with 15pro and ios17

100% this. I use both English and Spanish, and just typed a text message in English - it marked every word as misspelled and wanted to change them to Spanish. Also autocorrect is correcting things that don't need to be corrected. Also the random capitalization of Words is over the top. Worst update ever.

I tried this on my phone. I tried this and it did not fix the problem on my phone.

(Typing now…) I only spoke the second sentence. This voice recognition is horrendous. Long pauses and then several incorrect random sentences type and untype until it stops on something incorrect with duplicate words and random words and phrases. Come on Apple!!!!! Unacceptable!!!

Same. I’m having an issue where I have the English/Spanish and while it did work before well. It did get sluggish and now Siri only dictates in Spanish. Hey siri still works, but when I hold the power button there’s a small window of time that Siri will listen to me. Like if I say ‘what’s the temperature in Miami’ Siri will tell me the temperature of my current location.
