Dictation not working after iOS 18 and keyboard issues

Ive got an iPhone 15 and recently updated to iOS 18, now dictation simply doesn't work. No matter if I remove the languages and turn off the phone and add them (Norwegian and English), then turn on and off again they simply won't work...

Also, this new "immersive" keyboard experience where you can write in several languages is literally "drowning" me in issues... I write in Norwegian and English, and in Norwegian we have three extra letters Æ,Ø and Å, so if they keyboard is currently in English I have two options to use these letters; I can either starts writing in English and then click the emoji button and it'll switch and the keyboard switches to Norwegian and I can freely use Æ, Ø and Å. Or I can long-press on A and E (where they are hidden) and slide my finger to choose the letter I need.

BUT(!), if at some point the keyboard thinks I'm writing in English and I use an emoji it'll switch back to English and I'm stuck writing in Norwegian and then emoji button and the remove the written Norwegian text and then continue... And god forbid the keyboard is already in English and I have to start a conversation with either Æ, Ø or Å, I'll either have to start by long pressing or finding another way to write that sentence, hit emoji and it'll switch...

This keyboard experience is the absolute worse! It has added writing time and lowered my effectiveness, is there any way to et the old switch back and forth button back? Cause that saved me a lot of time!

This is the solution!

Go to Setting > General > Keyboard > Keyboards

Delete the bilingual Keyboard

English & German (in my case)

Add New Keyboard

English (US)

Add New Keyboard

German

The globe on the lower left comes back and lets you “lock in” the language

I am having the same issue with the voice to text. It is ridiculously slow, makes errors or stops working suddenly. As an attorney who uses this feature to dictate letters, motions, and other legal documents, this is a real problem. I’m hoping that Apple is working on this and there will be a quick fix. Otherwise consider this I may need to consider moving to a different phone/provider which would be unfortunate because I have been an Apple user for 20+ years.

I have a new 16 Pro Max with iOS 18. Trying to dictate text messages and emails has been a struggle. It constantly spells names with a lowercase first letter. Sometimes the first name in THERE’S no rhyme or reason to it. Sometimes it will put two words, touching each other without a spaceinbetween. Sometimes it will write a sentence correctly, and as I’m looking at the screen, it will delete and rewrite the sentence incorrectly in front of my eyes. I don’t understand this. If I write an email or a text that’s more than a sentence Long I would say 100% of the time I have to go back and correct words. On my old 14 Pro Max, it was starting to get bad and I thought it might be pocket dust in the speaker. But now with the new phone and the new update it’s even worse. I wish there was ways to modify things as well like when I say steve it shows up with an uppercase S. Also, my boss’s name is Mark. It always come up Marc in dictated emailsSometimes it’ll write it correctly and then delete and rewrite it in front of my eyes incorrectly. I know noone named Marc. I know several people named Mike and it always spells MIKE in all caps. I went through all my contacts just to see if it’s checking my phone and I have no contact MIKE saved all caps, so why is it doing this? I almost always say I’m “gonna” do this. This is a problem with my speech. I wanted to say I’m “going to” do this. But I would like there to be away, so it’s Siri is smart enough to realize this. Is there any way to make these corrections and make talk to text/dictation work? I dictated this text and fixed several mistakes but not all of them.

I got the iPhone pro, every time I go to type a message and someone is talking, the phone automatically types what anyone in the room is saying.

if I turn off dictation, it stops, but then I can’t use the microphone function, which I often use for longer texts when I’m alone.

does anyone have a fix for this one? I just got the phone on Saturday. Wondering if I should return

Que Wit English em português All sou not Work well és English não Ray não….this is the pure example….

I was dictating in english and that is what happened…..cannot go back to only single language …which is a torture for people using and speaking multiple languages. The old way and the new way does not work for those speaking multiple languages. Who wants to keep typing those days are over in this era. Why work on AI stuff when global communication is needed constantly.

Me too! Everything was perfect on my IMAX Pro 13 until I got this new 16 Pro Max! Oh my God the dictation is working now at least here! I followed the steps that Google recommended. I couldn’t see security privacy and microphone in the settings, and so I shut it all down and started it back up and maybe that did the trick. Dictation isn’t as accurate as it was before the OS updates either.

It’s brutal. I’ve called and called and recall you got a phone switched out same issue started right away with a new phone. I’ve had it about eight months and man it’s just killing me and crushing me for time I have a disability that makes it painfully slow to type.. I’ve always relied on dictation. Now if I can get through this sentence with without freezing it shuts down on me all the time.

The best I got Apple for a fix keeps saying “yes it’s an own issue they’re working on it hopefully the next update” since November getting the phone that’s the same answer I get every time.

And oh my God the raping of the privacy…. I mean what are we doing on earthlings what are we doing?

you know the answer to everything people and Apple and Google and Facebook and Instagram and everything else is to go back to the year 2011 or even 2010 when privacy laws were in effect and algorithms weren’t ruining our brains and causing all this division.

Unfortunately they and even the people using their devices who were alive enough to remember every single warning that came out about that let alone AI that we all just went along with and here we are now in the whole world is in a sad state of affairs well beyond dictation.

But pretty crazy we can’t even get dictation right and we’re letting lose all this technology

Hardly anybody complains about this. Without algorithmic and destruction of privacy and hate speech being no such thing specifically in a country that used to be number one in everything

You wouldn’t be where you are now you had you heated and protested the warning and that’s a plain plane plane absolute truth of it no matter how much you wanna argue or disagree with it

There’s just no way we’d be in the state of affairs if we could roll up everything back to the way it was social media all that and put back in place the privacy laws that we followed, remove the algorithms, just like everything was in 2011.

it would be problem solved and there would be no grafting and grinding your way to the evil top

simple plain simple… oh and dictation works better then too.

officially this is only my sixth comment on here since owning an iPhone three and all the others that follow up to here.

really I just can’t believe how much more intelligent everything is. Wink
