iOS 18 Disable Video Looping in Photos App?

I have been looking everywhere with no luck but thought I would ask here. Is there any way to disable the auto-looping of videos in the Photos app in iOS18? After upgrading now if I play a video to auto-repeats in an endless loop until you stop it where in the past it would stop at the end of the video.

I dislike this feature since I often show others videos on my phone and find it very annoying that the video instantaneously loops back to the beginning when it finishes playing. Sometimes this makes it hard to tell for sure if the video has finished or looped and it's always a nuisance if I need to talk to the person about the video once it finishes playing, especially if it happens to be a video that's quiet for a few seconds at the end and I've forgotten to close the Photos app.

Just talked to apple support and currently in 18 you can't disable it, but he suggested I leave a comment here to have them change it back in future versions.

Maybe if we all do that, something might get done in the next version.

Uhm, because of the 18 pages of people complaining about it and asking for a fix???

You do understand that represents a minisucule number of iPhone users, right? Even if you multiplied it by a thousand, it would still be statistically insignificant. So, no, this thread is not evidence that the "vast majority" share your feelings on the issue.

I see that some have gotten 18.2 and claim there is a fix but I don't have 18.2 yet. This thread started in September and I didn't get 18 until a couple of weeks ago in December. I don't know how Apple decides who to update and when but I hope I don't have to wait months for a fix.

Apple releases the updates to everyone who has eligible hardware on the same day. The update was released yesterday. What time during the day it might have become available to you will depend on where in the world you live. I'm on the East Coast of the U.S., and it was early afternoon. For some reason, the update to Sequoia showed up later.

That was your choice. iOS 18 was released to ALL users in the world who had phones that supported it (roughly 500,000,000 users) on September 16, 2024. You chose not to update, which was a personal decision.

No, what I stated is absolutely true. EVERY iPhone is eligible for update on the same date, and you can go to Settings/General/Software Update to install it. If you don’t check you may not realize it is available, but ALWAYS will be. Apparently you didn’t check, and after a couple of months Apple’s system pushed you to update, because there was an important security patch.

THANK YOU Apple for fixing a problem that was very annoying to quite a lot of users!

I saw yesterday to install 18.2, did. Then went to videos and still looping. Went back to this discussion and learned there were other steps that must be done manually to fix the looping issue.

Go to settings > apps > photos > and then toggle OFF the video looping. TA DA! It fixed the looping.

It appears quite a few users in this discussion need to learn a little patience, and a little more knowledge about their cell (and how updates occur).

This discussion has been of tremendous help.

If you can give one good reason for having this be the default setting, with no way of disabling it, I'm sure hundreds of us would love to hear it. To me, there are only few logical explanations for it:

1: Something in the code was messed up, they were fixing it, but they're too afraid ever to accept responsibility for a mistake.

2: To alert people that they've created this absurd feature.

Or, what makes the most sense to me:

3: Apple often demonstrates that they are smug and out of touch.
