MacOS15 / Sequoia - problems with Microsoft files

Hi,

I updated to Sequoia and everything seemed fine.

Now, neither my MacBook Pro (M3) nor my Apple Mini (M2) recognises Microsoft files any longer (Word. PowerPoint, Excel....).

Finder tries to open MS Word files with Preview. When I tell Finder to open the file with MS Word I get the following error message: "Apple could not verify "xxxxxxxxx.docx" is free of malware that may harm your Mac or compromise your privacy". Other file types work perfectly well as before.

Everything works well on my iOS 18 devices.

Anyone else having this problem. Any ideas?

Cheers

SWE

I find a way to solve definitely.

The problem is related to Launch Service database corruption managed by lsregister

I followed some old instructions found by google search for Sierra that works also on Sequoia

/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchServices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -kill -r -domain u -domain s -domain l -v

Also you can try to delete the quicklook cache with this command within the terminal:

qlmanage -r

After executing those commands I lost some icons and the screen background, but after a restart everything has been restored, XLS and DOCX files are now correctly associated and quicklook works perfectly.

Have a nice day ;)

I am having issues with printing, saving to PDF, and 'saving as' some MSWord files ever since I updated to iOS 15.1. I am using Office365 updated on an M1 Macbook Pro.

I either see the spinning ball OR is quits suddenly. I have also noticed similar issues with Preview but they are not as frequent.

Strangely the problem is not consistent. Some word docs cause more trouble than others. Not sure of a pattern yet.

Docx file opens, but I am STILL getting the same message to activate my MS Office account. I cannot save or edit files. I bought a lifetime subscription to MS Office 2019 for Mac. It's in my apps, but does NOT work. I have contacted Microsoft, and the company is at a loss to help me. I called an Apple technician who told me to get in touch with Microsoft. Are you getting the picture yet?

I tried every workaround suggested in the Apple Community. NOTHING works!

Sadly, ElCapitanSt, I tried your work-around, and it did nothing for me. I bought a lifetime subscription to MS Office 2019, installed it on my Mac running Sequoia 15.1.1, and I cannot save or edit my hundreds of MS Word files. I keep getting an "activate" message calling for a yearly subscription. I hope you have an answer for me. I've tried doing word processing files in Pages and exporting them to Word, but that is not the answer.
