Running iOS 18.1 on old phone, will setup prompt me to install 18.1 on 16 Pro

I am unfortunately running 18.1 beta 4 on the phone I am trading in Friday. The new phone will ship with 18.0. When I try to restore the 18.1 backup on the new phone, will it prompt me to install 18.1 beta 4?

I could swear this is the process, but the geniuses in the store are telling me I need to set up the new phone as a new device, enroll in beta, upgrade to 18.1 b4, wipe it clean and then do the transfer/restore from old to new.

I could swear it will prompt me to install the beta.

Thank you, I understand. I have confirmed with Apple that they will be offering 18.1 beta as an upgrade when needed as part of the setup process. It should be just as seamless as upgrading to a new official release that the backup you are trying to restore was created in.

I understand you can't comment on this. Leaving this here for others.

Normally you cannot restore a backup to a version of iOS earlier than the one used in making the backup. That's really all we can say since we can't discuss issues with beta versions in these forums.

In the past everything used to be seamless with apple. Not anymore. I bought the the 16 Pro Max and I could not transfer my data. It seems like there is not team working together at the iPhone anymore.
