IOS 18 Apple Music Keeps Crashing

I’m on iOS 18.0.1 and today my 15 Pro Max suddenly kept crashing multiple times after one song played or if I started a song and wanted to skip ahead to another in my custom playlist. Strangely my 12 Pro Max, which is also on iOS 18.0.1 was perfectly fine playing songs on Apple Music.

What worked for me was clearing the history within Apple Music (drag down from the now playing screen and you should see the previously played songs). After doing this, Apple Music worked as normal and I could skips songs without the app crashing.

I tend to listen to the same playlist on repeat so I wonder if it caused some sort of memory corruption.

I got fed up and deleted the music app, kept subscription, and redownloaded from the App Store. Since then I have not had any issues. Annoying to have to redownload all your local songs again but it far outweighs the annoyance of it crashing every few songs and all the other glitches I was experiencing.

Same here. I downloaded Vox free version and it plays all of my music and all of my playlists...without crashing and freezing up. Music is the main thing I use my iPad for. Airplay to my stereo throughout the house. VOX does it all AND it sounds better than Apple Music App. I now have Vox on my iPhone, Mac and two iPads. Tired of waiting for Apple to figure things out. Can I just ask...what is beta testing for if it can't catch things like this? Especially in an Apple native app.

Currently working with Apple Support and there is no official work around or from what I’m told is it even being looked at yet. I’ve been advised to delete the app and all of my downloaded music then redownload everything again to see if that works. She said to make sure to keep the subscription when deleting the app.

I don't want to jinx this but I have gone ahead and installed the iOS 18.1 RC on my iPad and I have been using the Apple Music app for 24 hours now WITHOUT and problems. Hang on everyone. The fix you are waiting for appears to be coming. Fingers crossed that this is REAL. So far it is going fine.

After the release of iOS 18.1, I have had no issues with Apple Music with freezing or crashing in every explanation on this discussion. They have actually also fixed some minor things like the music cutting out when changing replay options like repeat. I know that’s minor but it was a little annoying.

I’m afraid not. Same symptoms - either non-response or fully crashes after a time (1-10 songs). No obvious trigger.

• Both on mobile, wifi and downloaded
• I use the djay app to access my apple music subscription, and don’t have the same issue
• Seems to be more likely when in full screen mode with lyrics, but may just be coincidence

Same here. No streaming at all. local files only. Keeps crashing. It helps using third party music apps. They do not crash although they use the same library.

I had a fix but it wasn’t permanent. I disabled cross play and the bug is happening less frequently than it was.

I contacted Apple support, and they advised me to reset all settings, which I did. Unfortunately, the issue still persists as you described. We're definitely losing our subscription money due to a problem we've never encountered before. I hope they release an update to fix this soon. I encourage everyone to reach out to Apple support and report any issues as they arise; this will help prioritize their fixing efforts.

As of 10/08, after the iOS 18.1 update, can confirm it is still an issue as well.

Tried all general “fixes”, restarting phone, closing out of music app and reopening, resetting settings, logging out of Apple Music and logging back in, etc.

Happens on either iPhone, iPad, MacBook for me. Happens regardless of whether I shuffle a playlist/artist/album or if I just manually select the album or song and let it play in order.

iOS 18.1 is out now, I hope this is fixed. I haven’t updated yet since I am at work but will update tonight. Please Apple. I work as an automotive tech and the random crashing doesn’t help because I can’t pause my music with my wireless earbuds since the app completely freezes. It won’t work on the lock screen either.

Same here. Constant crashing on my iPad, iOS18. Sometimes the music keeps playing, but the controls are non functional and the UI doesn't update. Can't power down using the new power button in Control Center either. Very annoying. Not using any 3rd party music apps, just the Apple Music app. Songs aren't being streamed, they are in my library and downloaded to the device.

Confirm still having this issue. Happens daily. App freezes but music keeps playing for one more song. Then I have to force close it and restart it which takes unusually long. iPhone 15 latest public release.

Mine is doing the same, even still with 18.1. I can play from my library without issue (as far as crashing at least - Still very VERY laggy), but when I go to my “Favorites” or any other playlist, it crashes without fail. It starts by showing a song and artist that’s not still playing but did previously, then I cannot skip and literally close the app to restart. For a period of time after closing the app music even still plays. This was no issue at all on the prior OS versions so PLEASE resolve this once and for all. I personally could care less about AI and other “upgrades”, just fix what wasn’t and is now BROKEN!!!!
