Siri not working with CarPlay after iOS 18 Update

I have experienced identical issues involving Siri and Apple CarPlay after installing iOS 18 on my iPhone 13 Pro Max.

Like some of the others who have commented on this issue… I also own a Subaru (2022 Subaru Crosstrek Limited).

On September 19th I contacted Apple Support. After numerous attempts to rectify the issue, it was decided to run a diagnostics test. The results were forwarded to Apple Engineering.

I was told by an Apple Senior Advisor I should hear something within a couple days or so.

Hopefully Apple will fix this issue!!

Does anyone have any news on this? I’m still having issues where issuing Siri commands via CarPlay like, “Hey Siri” brings up the response trigger animation on the infotainment center, but following up with “Text XXX” just brings up the individual you want to message, but she doesn’t reply back and it’s almost like it times out. Using the button on the steering wheel works, but it’s a pain to have to use it for every single command. I did not have this issue until iOS18. I know there was a recent update released by Subaru, but I haven’t received it nor do I know if it addresses the issue. For reference I have a 2019 Subaru Sport 8” Non-Nav Infotainment system. I’ve DFU my iPhone, unplugged the negative terminal from my battery on my Subaru for 15 minutes, re-updated via usb the last update issued by Subaru, but nothing works. I’ve reset my infotainment center as well…what’s going on?

I have an aftermarket Android Car Stereo, using Zlink/Tlink to do Carplay. It was all working fine till I got the iPhone 16 Pro (I used to have the iPhone SE 2nd gen).

Siri had no audio. The only way I can force Siri's audio to work while in Carplay is to go against all the warnings that tell me NOT to connect to bluetooth while connected to Carplay. Now Siri's audio comes as a Bluetooth phone call.

I have a 2018 Outback and everything worked perfectly fine until I bought the iPhone 16 pro with IOS 18. Now CarPlay is greyed out on the screen but it I hit the voice command on the steering wheel you can see the Siri animation on my phone.

Same. Subaru Forester ‘23. iPhone 13 ProMax. Updated to iOS 18 last week. Siri worked fine until today. I ask her to read text message, she swirls and then the ‘Reply’ screen pops up. Anything I ask, she just swirls. As soon as I get out of the car, she responds as normal.

I’ve restarted iPhone multiple times. Checked all the settings suggested. Nothing corrects the problem.

Apple…fix this!!!

And…please, please PLEASE…fix the ‘You’ll need to unlock your iPhone’ when I ask what is on my calendar or agenda for today.

Similar problems after iOS 18 upgrade. 2022 VW ID.4 and iPhone 15 Pro Max, connected wirelessly to CarPlay. When Siri activates from the car system, for example to read a text message, the system freezes for about 30 seconds and then CarPlay disconnects and eventually automatically reconnects. When I try to use voice to text directly on the phone it also freezes and then CarPlay disconnects. Forgetting both sides, restarting and reconnecting doesn’t help. This makes CarPlay 100% unusable, I have to drive with the phone disconnected. I’m not using a VPN.

Same issue. My iPhone 13 was fine with iOS 18 on my 2024 Toyota Venza. Upgraded to an iPhone 16 Pro and Siri no longer works. Same issue where the globe appears but I don’t hear a voice. Cannot send or hear text messages. I restart my phone and it will work for a couple days and then go back to misbehaving. I use CarPlay wireless.

I am having the same issue with Siri in Car Play as everyone else. I spent 2 hours on the phone with Apple trying to resolve the problem with no solution available. I, too, did a reset on my phone and the issue is still not fixed. I removed the car from Car Play and added it back. Still no luck. It doesn't work with the steering wheel microphone button either. It's frustrating and inconvenient. Hoping Apple will find a solution to this issue pronto!

I updated my 2021 Subaru Forester’s software hoping it would solve the issues with Siri . It did not. It’s definitely a Subaru issue since all my stand alone devices work perfectly. I have a stand alone CarPlay unit for my old car and it worked perfectly after the iOS 18 update

So, my wife’s 2016 Mazda 3 works flawlessly, so it’s something in the implementation that Subaru, and now Honda, use to facilitate the phones connecting to the QNX CAR platform the iPhone uses to display CarPlay

Same with me...new 2025 Minicooper with new OLED round screen...Bluetooth doesn't always connect automatically, so I have to do it manually, which by then I'm driving and it's dangerous. Then I have to push the "Mic" button...then, sometimes I can get Siri to speak to me with "hmmm?"...Sometimes not...Called Apple support, removed phone from CapPlay, added it back...same issue...Gotta be Apple's glitchy software

I am having similar issues, when I ask Siri to message someone she says I need to download an app for that while I am not in the car. And she can’t answer simple questions anymore without telling me she can’t show me that while I am in the car.

she also, off CarPlay will ask me what I want to say to someone, but never send the message!! 🤦🏻‍♂️

ever since the new update, Siri has seemed useless and buggy.

i own a 2023 Subaru forester wilderness edition

I have Toyota Yaris. The messages appear work fine but Siri refuses to play my music. When I ask for music it says it’s not possible to give results while driving. I’ve had the 18.3 update and it’s still not working.

I have identical issues with my iPhone 16 Pro in 2024 BMW X5 after iOS 18 update.

Please FIX THIS!!

Just to be clear, for me this is a CarPlay issue. I used wireless, sometimes Siri answers, at least half the time it doesn’t. I’d like to think 18.1 fixes it. It is pretty fundamental
