hi. i have a Macbook Air and my charger is usually orange even after overnight. when i first got it the charger was always green and i left it plugged in. as i started to move around the house (unplugged) when pluggin again the orange light stayed on

how long does it take a MacBook Air to charge? the charger was always green at first and I left it charging but now I have unplugged the charger to move around and when plugged in again the charger stays orange for hours, overnight. Currently my battery shows 96%.

is this something that needs to be addressed? Thank you.

MacBook Air, macOS 14.6

That's normal. Your Mac is set by default to optimize charging to preserve battery health, and that means if you run on AC power most of the time, your Mac will hold the battery at ~80% charged. When connected but with charging paused, the light on the MagSafe connector will be orange.

The Mac tracks your usage, and if you use the computer on battery more often, it will charge it to 100%. You can also force it to charge to full by clicking on the battery icon (menu bar or control center, if it's not there go to System Settings > Control Center and turning on one/both of those options) and selecting Charge to Full Now.
