Erase macOS Base System

I am erasing my old Mac and have followed instructions to erase the Macintosh HD successfully. But a macOS Base System remains. I tried to erase it as well, but the "erase"button is not available. So, is my Mac fully erased or do I need to do something else.

macOS base system is a virtual boot machine made by the macOS installer. So you have erased your Mac successfully. If you boot the Mac it should boot in to the "hello" screen
