iOS 18 disconnecting my hearing aids

Update to iOS 18 and strted getting random disconnections of my hearing aids from iPhone 15. Requires me to reboot the phone to re-establish the connection. Wish I hadn't been so eager to update on the first day.

Hi Albert Keeney

Re: "iOS 18 disconnecting my hearing aids"

Wondering if there is a hearing-aid firmware (or app) update available:

eg: maybe update through the app, manufacturer's support website, or through your hearing-aid specialist ?

(You may have a hearing-aid manual that explains the update process / details).

All the best :-)

Commiserations, antonie1970.

Am no expert in this area, yet Apple provides articles that may help troubleshoot.

Without pin-pointing the precise source of the issue from those possible, the solution may be any one of various options. May I offer a few suggestions to help trouble-shoot ?

If you haven't already:

You may want to try restarting your iPhone to re-establish the connection.

If needed: How to: Restart your iPhone - Apple Support

Try turning Bluetooth off, waiting a little, turn Bluetooth back on.

NB: hearing aids can only be connected to one device at a time,

ie: they may be "switching" between active devices ..

✽ You can check your settings to:

Route and automatically answer calls on iPhone - Apple Support

Eg: says:

  1. "Go to Settings  > Accessibility > Touch > Call Audio Routing, then choose an audio destination.
  2. Tap Auto-Answer Calls, turn on Auto-Answer Calls, then set the duration of time before the call is answered by tapping  or .

During a call, you can switch the audio routing from your hearing aid to the iPhone speaker by removing the hearing aid from your ear."

Else:

Wondering if you have checked with your hearing-specialist , or with Phonac Support : ie: Their support website: https://product-support.phonak.com/s/?language=en_US

ie: maybe there's an app or firmware update available for the hearing aids. ?

If you want: You can also check "compatibility" on the above website ...

You can view Apple's advice on how to: Control your hearing device

Eg says:

"When your hearing device is connected to it, your Apple device can control microphone level (volume), audio presets, and more for your hearing device.

Find the settings here:

  • iPhone or iPad: Go to Settings > Accessibility > Hearing Devices.

To see more settings, tap the name of your connected hearing device."

(You can try: Settings/Accessibility/Hearing Devices controls)

Some good suggestions here.

In my case, the connections (biaural) were stable for all other ios versions for years. Now with the ios 18 version, I have to pair my Cochlear Nucleus 7 daily. I found though that turning them off and then back on does the trick currently.

At least the apple app (triple side press) is no longer glitched. It use to lose the hash marks for +/- 5 adjustments and go to a slider +/- 1 and individual adjustment (not both at once).

Possibility requires a bluetooth patch from Cochlear Americas?
