transfer 2fa from google auth to apple password app using qr code?

I was trying to get an existing 2fa code set up in the Apple Password app on macos Sequoia running on a 2021 MBP that already existed in my Google authenticator app on my iphone. I've had no problem dong a single authenticator code from google auth to other third party 2fa apps by selecting a single item in Google Authenticator and exporting it using the QR code generated by Google Authenticator's export function and saving it as a screenshot, exporting the original from Photos.app in png format and having the third party app open it. Apple's Password.app on sequoia purports to have the same functionality (reading QR codes, that is), but when I try to import it, it gives an error "A verification code could not be created from this image."

Has anyone successfully transferred a 2FA setup code using QR codes from Google Authenticator to Apple Passwords app? Is this a walled garden issue or a bug?

thanks

I found a workaround - transfer from Google Auth App to G2FA app, available in the App Store. G2FA gives you the choice of getting the qr code or the actual setup code to transfer to a different app, and Apple Password app will accept the setup code from G2FA.
