Can't beam anymore with Airflow on AppleTV

Hi there,

I updated all my devices with the new OS18. Meaning my Apple TV, my iPhone and my MacBook M1.

All works properly.

Then I've decided to watch a movie that I usually beam from my Macbook to my Apple TV thru Airflow app.

Before the update, it works perfectly.

Since I did the update, it doesn't work anymore.

Airflow does recognize my Apple TV, does sent a pass code, does react is I ping it thru the app. I did all the troubleshooting, but yet not working.

I disabled the firewall, same.

I disabled my VPN, same.

I start to believe that Apple did do something on TVOS 18 and block it in some way.

And it's really really really annoying !!!!!

At the opposite to enhance the Apple TV usage, it totally discredit it. It's useless now.

So if someone as an idea, I'll appreciate it.

Thanks

  • If the same content is available on Apple TV directly, then prefer that. It should run more smoothly, and is imho far more user friendly.
  • Some content providers may block AirPlay from browser streams. Can be specify a bit more what you are trying to stream?
  • Prefer in-app AirPlay options when offered (mostly Apple apps), rather than system-wide screen mirroring. The first would stream the source video as-is, while the latter uses screen capture and downscaling to 1080p, which might have DRM issues on its own.
  • For downloaded video content not from Apple’s servers (e.g. home videos), consider Home Sharing instead. That may require changing the file container to .mp4/.m4v/.mov if it is something else initially.
  • If all else fails, you can use the TV as second screen by using a good Mac HDMI adapter and HDMI cable. This would then skip the Apple TV box. The MacBook Air M1 would support HDMI 2.0 this way, verify that your adapter and cable support at least the same.

Hi Urquhart1244

Good point, I already thought about it. Also to make sure one thing : I try to beam a video from my MacBook Air M1 to my AppleTV, not from iPhone to my Mac or AppleTV..

The fact is that the Apple's site doesn't explain it properly, to my knowledge. Or at least it is not yet updated for Sequoia usage.

I tried, but it doesn't work. So if you have the right explanation how to use Airplay with Sequoia, leet me know.

No way to activate properly Airplay with Sequoia, or I missed something.

I also tried "file sharing" with AppleTV, same result : doesn't work.

Then of course, I already contacted the app developper.

So at the end of the day, I try to find a viable solution by asking everywhere.

Thank you for your reply.
