iPhone 16 Pro Max Screen Unresponsive

Is anyone else noticing their iPhone 16 pro max being unresponsive sometimes when touching the screen, typing, swiping.

Im not even using a screen protector and it’s like it. Makes things seem really laggy sometimes.

Did not expect it on a brand new iPhone.

After iOS 18.0.1 did not fully fix the problem that I had with my laggy screen, I ended up making an appointment with a Genius at an Apple Store the day before yesterday, and they did a bunch of hardware diagnostics. My phone failed the Touch Screen Responsiveness Test, so they swapped out my iPhone 16 Pro Max with a new one. I immediately noticed the huge change in responsiveness with the new phone, and it has been absolutely perfect ever since. This has solved my problem completely, and I no longer have any issues with my iPhone whatsoever. It’s awesome now.

Yes, I’ve done several forced restarts. It’s the third 16 PM. Clean install from the second one onward, just in case it was something transferring over. Taken it to the Genius Bar, everything I can personally think of. First one was diagnosed with intermittent kernel panics, second one failed touch screen diagnostics. Kernel panics, from what I understand, do not “get better” as time goes on and are extremely unlikely to be software related.

Nothing changed for me, I’m continuing to still have weird screen responsiveness. Except now, I have Apple AI with the problems 😖

Most people aren't having touch issues, but I have no doubt that you are. Have you tried to adjust touch per the directions here --> Adjust how iPhone responds to your touch - Apple Support

I have the iPhone 16 pro max. Scrolling one handed on apps with my thumb only on the screen will frequently not register the swipe. I have confirmed this is and issue on iOS 18. I have done two complete resets, issue is still present. This isn't and issue on my iPhone 15 pro max. This is annoying and needs a fix before the return window closes.

It’s likely hardware.

I’m on my third 16 PM replacement. Third.

It’s been happening since launch day; I was hoping iOS 18.0.1 would fix it, but it appears to be a design flaw with the phone itself. This isn’t happening on my IPad, and it didnt happen on my last model either. The touchscreen is nigh unusable. I am hoping that I’m wrong, but If this isnt fixed by the next update, I will likely be taking the (unfortunate) and tedious measure of moving everything off of the apple ecosystem, and this is from an Apple customer of over a decade. Peace.

I believe the keyboard issue might be related to Apple’s native virtual keyboard. I’ve experienced the same problem—extreme lag, with some inputs not being registered, particularly the space bar. Initially, I thought it might be due to the placement on the larger screen, as I recently upgraded from the iPhone 13 Pro Max. However, I’m not entirely sure that’s the cause.

I tried using Gboard (though I’m not a big fan of it), and it seems to have resolved the issue to some extent I believe. Maybe it’s worth giving it a try?

on October 1st I reported the same incident to Apple Support in the Netherlands (unresponsive touchscreen). They said: this issue together with the too sensitive sides that activate phone while holding on the sides is being worked on and should get solved with a software update.

As it is also mentioned in the media. Known bug that will be solved. When? Nobody knows.

But as understanding as we can be, how could this have gone so wrong?? This is the absolute first thing you discover when installing your brand new iPhone 16 pro Max that any Apple employee must have experienced themselves!

It’s not the apps even signing into this website has been difficult I have 2 phones there’s no issue with those running with the same software. Same apps same software updates on apps it’s same with texting using iMessage it’s operating like a very bad third party screen and I have been fixing phones for the last 15 years there’s some kind of issue which needs fixed quickly.
