I got my new iPhone 16 pro max yesterday. The camera control button (even though I have the settings properly configured to open the camera on a single press, and I did the new software update this morning) only works after pressing it twice. I want to know what’s going on in terms of bug fixes for software or if it’s a defective unit all together?

So I have the iphone 16 ProMax. I thought my camera button wasn’t working, however, not being used to the new phone yet, I noticed a 2nd lower button on the right-hand side of my phone. I didn’t realize it because the button is inward on the phone to the touch. It is not an outward button that you can easily feel like the other buttons on the phone. With all that said, it is the lower inward button on right side of phone that opens up the Camera feature. Hope this info helps
This is exactly my same issue. Updated to 18.1 and 18.2 but no luck. It seems to be a defective device. Did you ever get it resolved?
I have the same problem with 16 Pro Max 1TB. Tried reset networks / all to no avail. Went to service center and they are me to reset the whole phone which I reluctant to do it now seeing the extra work I need to recover back the data of the phone! I hope Apple has this covered when they roll out 18.1 firmware update soon! So disappointed!
It takes two presses from sleep, every time. This defeats the purpose.
After that, even if you turn off the screen with the on/off button, it'll work on the first press. I don't know what the mysterious interval is, after which the double-press problem returns.
Solution: go to the camera setting and on the system settings, click camera control and you’ll find it there. Thank me later lol.
Yes! I have the exact same problem! It’s very frustrating. I don’t know if my phone is defective or if this is a software issue. It’s on my iPhone 16 Pro Max. If I do a soft restart, the single click will open the camera only one time… And then, after that, I have to double click in order to launch the Camera app even though in my settings, I have it set to open with single click. Is this a hardware or software issue?
Hi everyone, I have the same issue. I pick up my iPhone 16 pro max 256gb desert titanium and after complete the configuration. I was checking the button camera and not open the camera in one click.
I called apple support and he tried to fix it without successful, he wanted to send the register to apple and was not possible too. I am thinking that is bug in the system or could be hardware problems.
If somebody know how to fix it please guide me.

I shouldn’t have to restart my iPhone 16 pro max for a button to work. When I press the button it launches the camera and all it shows is a black screen. Then I can’t close it or anything and then it closes itself and then goes to the Home Screen or locks up and I have to restart
my brand new iPhone 16 pro max glitches ALL THE TIME. Camera button won’t work then it kicks off my Bluetooth, glitches whatever I’m listening to, and camera function in Home Screen also won’t work. I have to turn it off and back on to get basic functions back. What. Is. The. Deal. It’s updated. It’s brand new.
iphone 16 promax; with a single click of the side button, it went right to camera mode, now , it does NOT. My settings are correct, I did a soft restart of the phone and it still doesn’t work. For the cost of this phone, I am ****** off. I have read other people’s issues with same problem, but their fixes have not worked for me! Anybody have any other suggestions?
I just bought my new expensive upgrade last Wednesday. I'm still playing around learning its tools. Today I pressed the side button to launch the camera....nothing happened. I checked the button, cleaned off the cameras, restarted...nothing. I haven't had luck. I'll read through all the suggestions. I may need to call Apple support. How disappointing for all the $$$$
I have the 16 pro max. My problem that the soft press does not work. I’m unable to zoom in or out or cycle through photos , portraits, etc. hard press works fine. I can a take pictures , record. But that’s it do you think it really the screen protector
I modified my Camera Control button to get it to work for me.
I went into Settings > Accessibility > Camera Control button > following
Now I have no issues. I think at 67 I was having a tough time with light press etc. Now I’m a happy camper.
This is so annoying. I have a 16 Pro and it will not work with the single click. I have a work phone that is a 16 and it launches the camera no problem with one click. All the settings are the same. VERY ANNOYING.
This solved it for me….go to Settings / Display & Brightness scroll down to Camera Control and where it says Require Screen on, toggle this off and hey presto Camera Control works from lock screen.
Why Apple decided to put this control in a different menu to the camera goodness knows, but it is the solution.
