Updated iPhone 11 to latest IOS update 18 and Face ID not working.
turned off and on tried to reset face id but it won’t let me do a new id.
video and camera is working so don’t think it’s a camera issue

Turns out, the problem was with content restrictions. I had content and privacy restrictions enabled, which were blocking Face ID from working properly. Here's how I fixed it:

Turned off “Require attention for Face ID” and it works
Dislabing stolen device protection as explain in this video make my face id reset greyed out to reappear, and to be usable :

I know this may be an inconvenient fix but may be the solution, and if it’s not very sorry for the inconvenience 😅
Has anyone tried factory resetting their iPhone? I don’t remember if that wipes your apps or anything but I believe if you use iCloud for backup you can restore all your stuff shortly after resetting the phone. Sometimes factory reset is the end all be all tried solution if turning settings/phone off and on again doesn’t work

You can also try waiting for the next iOS update to release, as that may fix the issue. This could take a few weeks.

I am having the same problem on my iPhone XS. This problem started approximately 2 days ago. I tried to reset the FaceID but device said "FaceID is not available". Then I restarted my iPhone, tried resetting FaceID again, managed to made the reset.
After a couple of minutes or hours, not important, FaceID stopped working again. Reset was not possible, again. Restarting device makes the reset possible, again.
When FaceID stopped working, I tried to take a selfie portrait with front camera, I found out it could not focus on my face. I think this is a software bug in the drivers or softwares that manage the true depth camera. If my true depth camera was broken or had hardware problems, it should not work after device reset.
I read many replies below this post, people are complaining about similar issues, I think this problem is not the FaceID problem, it is a software/driver related true depth camera problem of the front camera.
I do hope this issue is fixed in a near future.

Same here, IPhone 13 Pro, everything works fine then after IOS 18.2 update FaceID is not working anymore. Sometime can get it working for a few minutes after resetting the phone. Distant diagnostic, then physical (in Genius Bar) : working while Apple crew diagnose the phone for a few seconds then not working anymore. Everything is diagnosed ok, sensor, camera, everything works fine… not a hardware problem.
Then I’ve had the most incredible answer from Apple crew “please factory restore your phone then manually re-enter your parameters as the “bug” may be in the assembling of your parameters…”
Apple is juste becoming as Microsoft (thanks Tim) they just loose control of their system so they throwback the responsibility to the user… acceptable on low cost disposable products not on +1200€ products…

I tried a last time to reset Face Id. I was in complete darkness, so I thought it would not work. Curiously, this time, it captured my face and Face Id works now. Never had an issue with ios updates before.

Face Id would only work infrequently after installing iOS 18.1 for me. It seems to have been fixed on my phone by turning off “Require Attention for Face ID”.
Rebooting the phone fixed the issue.
