Face ID not working on iPhone after iOS 18 update

Ever since I updated to iOS 18, I cannot unlock any of my locked Notes with Face ID, nor can I even manually enter the password to unlock them. This is a serious issue, as I’ve written the content of an entire book in Notes, and was hoping to format and publish soon! PLEASE FIX THIS, APPLE!!!

I'm having the same issues after installing the update a couple days ago on my iPhone 15 that I've had maybe 6 months. I tried resetting some of the toggle switches as recommended. Some of them toggle back on their own. It looks like it is going to let me reset Face ID and then just gives me a frame that tells me to move my phone higher or lower and never does anything. Face ID is one of the most loved features of my iPhone. At the very least, we should have an option to undo one version of the IOS to get back to where we were. Now we are just stuck!

But surely Apple review this group?

its obvious with all the issues they have not tested this update before release

like others on here my Face ID has stopped work working and my battery draining all since their latest update 😡😡😡

nothing on any forum is working to correct this. The face if cannot be reset etc

Tried to fix the problem by reseting my FaceID The Face ID reset kept telling me to "move a little higher" them "move a little lower". This went on for 15 minutes. It finally popped up and said "Face ID reset not available at this time." UGH!!! Why can't stuff just work????

I’ve tried all the suggestions on my IPhone 13 Pro, Face ID was working like a charm until I updated to IOS18, tried to reset my face and app won’t let me. This has taken up half my morning researching the problem and clearly it’s a software issue. DO BETTER APPLE, THIS IS ABSOLUTE NONSENSE!

18.2 update broke mine - and it’s a BIG problem I use face recognition for everything, all of my work apps take so much lunger to use and some won’t work🙃

seriously, why have this been a problem so long, and only gotten worse?!

I have tried rebooting and resetting as different people suggest, none of it works..

Earlier I thought 18.2 fixed the issue. But it didn’t Some things work with it others don’t. I was unable to sign in to this site with faceID and my phone unlock doesn’t work A few other apps do work. This is really annoying

Good to know! I hope it holds. I got mine to finally reset my faceID, but it doesn’t work for everything. I.e. it won’t work to unlock the phone.

yesterday it didn’t work to log in to this site, but today it didn’t. I still think they have a bug they need to fix.

Hey Apple! As a loyal costumer from the Netherlands. My face id doesn’t work after the ios 18 update. I tried everything and my phone has never fallen my screen is not broken al the cameras are working and i have the option to reset the face id but when i open it it won’t catch my face it doesn’t catch any face even not the one of my family members yesterday it just worked perfectly but today i woke up after the update and it stopped working.

I have an iPhone 13Pro. Just updated to 18.2.1 this evening. I was finally able to turn off stolen device protection via my passcode and iCloud ID (I guess this is one of the changes in this update) and to attempt to reset Face ID.

Now, when I try to set up Face ID, instead of getting the face shaped oval where you capture different angles of your face, I get a [ ] box that does nothing except tell me to put my face in frame, move lower, higher, etc.

Anyone else? Apple this is proving to be a cluster f clown show of an update. Please advise.

Updated to 18.2.1 this evening. Let me turn off device theft protection using my passcode and Apple ID and PW.

setting up Face ID does not work though. Instead of the oval allowing me to capture different angles of my face I get a square box [ ].

I tried hard resetting and all of that. Still not working.

they did a diagnostics check, away from me whilst I sat down on a seat with my phone). They did the Face ID diagnostics and said it was all clear. Not much they could say tbh apart from try resetting my Face ID which I had already done 8 times before going in.

on a good note I saw I had 503 cycles and my phone was on 85% (I’m currently using an iPhone 12 Pro Max, so it was nice to see the cycle count on his diagnostics check).

needless to say I am still stuck where I was and faulty Face ID.

my mum has the 11 Pro Max and no issues…..she is running iOS 17 and I told her to NOT upgrade to iOS 18.

she is in her 70’s and doesn’t need more hassle.

mine only started having issues since iOS 18 so I know my phone is ok. They even said nothing is wrong with mine in the Apple Store.

I’m interested to know your full start to finish. Did you turn off Face ID and then reboot your phone?

also you mention the “first circle”. I only get 1 circle. Once that’s done it asks if I want it with or without mask. I chose without and it then says “Face ID set up completed.

also do you wear glasses?

any help in these questions would be greatly helpful. I’m using a 12 pro max since new in 2020.

Ahh ok. Yeah I just get the brackets and says make sure face is in line with the bracket. Then get the circle and that’s it.

they checked my phone at the Apple Store and said it’s all fine which confuses me as to what else it could be apart from a firmware issue on apple’s side
