Face ID not working on iPhone after iOS 18 update

Is your front camera working in portrait mode? I always get the “Move Closer” message.

ive tried everything and it doesnt even want to re do the set up. its so weird because it just randomly stopped working and prompted me for my passcode everytime. never had the issue ever. only about 2 days since ios18 update

Hey Apple. It's a real issue after iOS 18. You should fix that. Lots of comments about this problem on internet. Here and reddit. I checked, even betas has that problem. They should make a workaround this problem.

Same here, iPhone 11. I think Apple does this on purpose so they get users to buy the latest iPhone. Everything was tied to my Face ID, my wallet, my banking , my online purchases…. Absolute mess trying to reset all these passwords I’ve long forgotten.

I am having the exact same issue and just did the update a day ago. I tried everything everyone has suggested even up to resetting the Face ID, however once I tried resetting it, it says “Face Id unable to set up, set up later”. How can I fix this? I prefer not to type in my passcodes for everything.

Mine isn’t working for anything. Even logging in here to make the comment. Usually, at the top, that face with the brackets around it moves and turns green. It doesn’t even move like it’s trying to read my face. I’ve turned off and turned on the Face ID (I’m too scared to reset it since so many people said it never let them re-add their face). It’s not working on my bank apps, my locked apps, hidden pictures, ANYTHING. This update has given me soooo many issues.

Apple, when people say the Face ID is not working it means that it is disabled. It also means that it cannot be reset because the Face ID reset is greyed out which makes the toggle inoperable. So Apple get your act together and stop telling people to go to Face ID and reset. It is not the proper answer.

Since I have downloaded ios 18 on my 13 pro max. Face Id does not work properly. Sometimes it works sometimes not. And now I have 18.1 but still I am having same problem. It just changed a little bit like sometimes it works but still problematic

I have device protection and I can't access any app on my phone because everythinh is faceID locked... I can't even reset faceID... Please is there a quick fix for this? I am unable to make even a basic purchase because I need my bank app for that

Same here. I confirmed, using an infrared remote, that the infrared camera is working, so it doesn’t seem like a hardware issue. Tried everything, including multiple reinstalls including recovery mode. No luck.

I can see Apple is trying to make things more secure, but this is true overkill. There is no way now after IOS 18 upgrade to open my phone, no matter what settings I tinker with; using the facial recognition. 

I drive for a living, and if I want to open my phone, I literally have to stop and pull off to the side of the road. Then focus super hard with my eyeballs wailed open, 3 inches from the front camera. Then, cross my fingers that will open, it does so about 30% of the time. 

Apple this is not helpful upgrade, probably the worst on record that I can remember. Taking all of the changes into account. Please fix this issue at least; seems a lot of people are upset about this upgrade. The visual layout in photos is also very bad, confusing to see the least, sometimes it’s good to leave well enough alone right Apple? 

Yesterday night, I updated iOS 18.1.1, but since today, there has been an issue where it hasn't recognized me so many times. sometimes it recognize me and unlock the phone i decide to reset face id after reset i tried to add face id it didn’t take my face it didn’t allow me, it say show the face on frame always after so many try finally it take, again it didn’t unlock the phone it didn’t recognize me.

Same problem. I updated to 18.1.1 iOS and immediately my Face ID won’t work. When I try to reset my Face ID ,it tells me to turn off the stolen device feature but in order to do that I’m prompted to use Face ID ! Arrrggghh.
