I recently updated my mac to sequoia 15.0. I can edit any photos already in iPhoto but not any new photos I download from my phone. I can make the edits but when I try to save it warns me it cannot be done.
I deleted a lot of photos and junk on my mac & restarted including running it through a repair program yet it still doesn't work. Any suggestions?

My friend made a picture with iPhone 16 Pro, backed up with Google Photo and shared it with me through this. Once shared, I received a JPG image (not HEIC). When I downloaded this image and added to Apple Photos on macOS 15.0 I cannot make any edits getting this error:

What I noticed, the JPG photo downloaded from Google Photo is with embedded Colour Profile: Display P3.
Not sure if that relevant, but when imported it to GIMP been asked to convert to sRGB which I did and saved in new file. New file worked well in Apple Photos. Tried with keeping Display P3 and re-save in to new file and it worked well.
Looks like this particular image taken from Google Photo is generated in format that is not compatiblem with recent Apple Photos in macOS 15.0 (it was working month ago with simillar way of sharing files).
Something must changed somewhere.

To rule out the profile as the culpret open the image file with the ColorSync Utility app and change the color profile to sRGB iEC61968-2.1 (located in the Applications/Utilities folder), save, import into Photos and then try editing in Photos.
As a part of the investigation, I airdropped the photo to the phone, created a new user on macOS and airdropped back, and I got the same issue, hence is not user-related but rather something wrong in macOS.
I can edit photos on my phone and share them back to my laptop and it will further work with Apple Photos, but that is not how it shall work.
Clearly an issue with macOS.
Awaiting call back from Apple support but do not have much hopes with it.
When I change the profile, it asks to re-save the file. The resaved file will work in Apple Photos but that is the same if re-saving in other apps. This is not feasible to do this with a lot of photos.
I followed up with Apple Support and the next step was to reinstall macOS Sequoia from recovery which I did, but it did not change anything.
