iPhone 16 Pro Max Touch responsiveness issues.

My iPhone 16 pro max has a delayed response to the touch and it’s also skipped my touch inputs. It’s mostly happening with the keyboard and the back button on top.

I do have a glass screen protector installed but have seen a lot of other people complaining without the screen protector.

It’s a very wide spread problem.

I initially bought the Ailun screen protectors on Amazon, and immediately after the phone was not as responsive, and I figured it’s because my fingers were cold at the time. After a day of use, I removed the protector the the problem went away.

i subsequently bought QHOHQ screen protectors on amazon, and same unresponsive problem.

Then I bought the expensive Zagg protector, while it was better, it still was not up to part and I removed it!

I have summarised the problem to 3 issues which a lot of people were facing, which one do you have ?

Issue A : Touch screen does not react to taps or swipes intermittently (repeated tap/swipe required).

Issue B : Touch feels laggy. It reacts but not immediately (most noticeable when typing quickly on the keyboard).

Issue C : Parts of the screen near the edges never react to touch input (the right part of P or backspace button on keyboard near the edge of the screen)

I just purchased two black iPhone 16 Pro Max with 256 GB configurations and one of them has the issue, the other one does not. I suspect that this is a hardware issue, with a potential group cause of different vendors being used to source iPhone parts.

At first I thought it was a screen protector issue, but after replacing it with another one, the issue persists - with or without a screen protector.

Typing is strange. The sensitivity of the screen is unlike any other iPhone I have ever used over the past two decades.

I have had my iPhone 16 Pro Max since launch and I've had this issue from the beginning. All updates installed (to 18.0.1), the typing lag issues still persists most predominantly while texting. I've tried everything including replacing the phone. I always have to order ahead of time because I get a Veterans' discount and have to order from a special site, so I've had both the original and replacement iPhones in-hand at the same time. Even with one initiated into iOS as brand new (without any transfer of data) and I still encountered the problem. So for me, it has not been fixed even after 18.0.1. I believe Apple is just waiting to release 18.1 and I feel that is unacceptable since I paid $1400 for this phone (minus $650 back for my iPhone 15 Pro Max)! I have remorse for trading in my iPhone 15 Pro Max. Those who haven't encountered the issue are lucky, because 7 out of 10 people I know who have upgraded to iPhone 16 Pro series have complained to me about the issue.

I just traded in an iPhone 13 Pro Max on 01/04/2025 for an iPhone 16 Pro Max. Just 1 day of use and the touch screen is so slow and unresponsive to my touch. I have the latest update for IOS 18.3 with no change with the issues. I purchased a screen protector from Verizon when I traded for this iPhone. So I agree that the screen protector isn’t an issue from reading other complaints about changing brands.

I spoke to Verizon Wireless sales assistant when I returned the iPhone 13 Pro Max on 01/05/2025. I explained the issue about this new iPhone and the touch screen issues. Not much of a reply about any issues from him. So today on 01/05/2025 I spoke to Apple Support on the phone. The support agent person did not assist me but explained for me to return the new iPhone 16 Pro Max for another device at Verizon Wireless..

WOW!

I am a loyal Apple customer with many years of repeat business for Apple devices.

So now I am confused about what to do. Go back to the old iPhone 13 Pro Max or get another device and see what will happen with it? Dumbfounded about the quality of Apple devices.

You are absolutely spot on regarding the touch issue and even post replacement people are having various different issues. On macrumors forum some people had issues with camera, device overheating build quality(considerable gaps between metal frame and the screen) etc. To add to that the iOS 18 is said to be the most buggiest software release! I feel this was a very chaotic launch without maintaining the general standards they had before.

I’m on 18.1 and this is still an issue for me on my iPhone 16 Pro Max. I can’t count the number of times in a day my taps don’t work, and I immediately then check to see if any other fingers are touching the screen already based on holding the device (given the bezels are so small. I don’t use a case.) 80% of the time nothing else is touching the display.

Extremely disappointed with my iPhone 16 Pro Max Safari is super slow but when I go to chrome it’s fast. Touchscreen is terrible. I just wasted a screen protector thinking that was the reason for it being unresponsive when in fact, it is the actual iPhone screen. You tap the screen and it does nothing very unresponsive, many times over. Is it me or does it feel like Apple has gone way downhill? They brag and brag about every new iPhone, all hype, but to me it’s minimal changes and lower quality after Steve Jobs.
