two issues with my iPhone 16 pro max IOS 18:
1) keyboard lacks of responsiveness, oftentimes I have to double click when typing or It misses letters.
2) when searching for apps or contacts and using the swipe down function if starting a word with the letter «s», the search immediately disappears and spotlight shuts down.
what to do? Do I have a faulty device or is this an OS issue?

Hi,i have had an same issue,I booked an appointment to apple store and they resolved this issue by restoring device.and i was advised that do not transfer old phone to new phone while setting up new device.i just backed up from icloud and re-installed app from App Store.and my device is running as expected now.
Wife's brand new 16 Pro Max did the same thing. After tinkering found out it was a setting she had turned on (also could have been default on), I turned it off and BOOM FIXED
Settings > accessibility > Touch > Touch accomodations > then turn this off and make sure touch accomodations is off
Apple support said to me this today.
”Thanks for wait Nick no worries at all, I was checking this issue with the information in my tools and yes there is a specific team of engineers working on It to correct it in the next update Nick, so in this case our engineers recommend basic troubleshooting to solve the issue“ .. the basic troubleshooting being volume up, volume down, press side button until apple logo appears.
I just upgraded from a 13 Pro Max to a 16 Pro Max last night. After doing so, I immediately noticed the sluggish keyboard while typing. Like many of you, I had first assumed it was from my screen protector.
However, I saw sina1367’s post (page 11) saying that this had something to do with iCloud syncing.
I checked mine and saw that it said my iCloud Syncing was Paused on Messages. So I went into my iCloud settings and forced a sync of my messages to iCloud. After that was finished, my keyboard was no longer laggy! I hope this helps!
Managed to fix mine. Just disable ‘Hold duration’ in the ‘touch accommodations’ menu. Hope it helps others

settings - touch - touch accommodations and turn it off…I followed some wrong advice on YouTube and google and I guess I had turned it on and forgot about it completely. try it please
I THINK I FIXED MY PROBLEM BY FORCING THE IPHONE TO RESTART. Click the down volume and up volume and hold the power until the phone restart and you see the apple logo.

I have been having this issue as well. I am on iOS 18.1 (22B5069a) on iPhone 16 pro max. Here what I did , go under settings -> accessibility-> keyboard & typing and enabled slow keys and set to 0.10 ms.
I am not sure if has fixed the glitchness with typing but definitely improved and it feels much smoother now for me and I hope apple could figure out the root cause and fix asap.

I started using the Microsoft SwiftKey keyboard along with a few of the other things people recommend here, and now my issued are completely gone.

I have changed to iPhone pro / set as a new Phone without transfer from iCloud or other phone. I needed to download all my apps manually.
They said transferring from other phone or iCloud might bring some bugs that’s why.
but what is the meaning of iCloud backup and transfer in this case?
I was having the same issue, and took the screen protector off and now it’s fine.
