CarPlay with iOS 18 Broken

Hard to offer much help when you don't tell us what things you tried.

1. Do you use a VPN on your iPhone? If yes, turn it off or better yet, delete it completely as they aren't needed.
2. Did you go to Settings > General > About > Name and change the name of the phone as often cars see the name and are then trying to connect to the previous phone.
3. Did you have your car forget your previous phone, then have your phone forget the car if it is in Settings > General > CarPlay, then reconnect to your car?

It’s not your head unit. I have a 14 pro max and it’s wrecked my car play. Tried a friends 13 with ios18 and it worked fine. There’s obviously differing hardware in various phones that aren’t working right with ios18. Best they sort it asap coz it’s unusable at this point

Iphone 16 pro max. was working great qith carplay with ios 18.2. updated 2 days ago to the 18.3. Now the carplay cannot connect. Removed the device. installed again. It sends the code to the phone to pair but after that it crashes before finishing the connection. Vey annoying specially when you need it to work Apple has a lot more connectivity issues than android in the last couple of years

Wired or wireless CarPlay? If wired, try another cable. Many cables are charge only and will not pass data.

As already mentioned, try turning off your VPN if you have one.

No, this is an Apple issue, not the car. CarPlay fails on both my cars, one is foreign and the other is American. Behavior began right after loading IOS 18.

Turn WiFi off.

Just downloaded IOS 18.1 and all fixed-works perfectly wirelessly.

obviously it was an IOS issue.

I bought a CarPlay wireless adapter off Amazon for about £12. It now works perfectly and I’ve got rid of the cable. It’s not so much a fix as a workaround but I actually prefer it.

Same issue here with my iPhone 15 Pro with iOS 18 on a 2019 Honda HRV Sport.

CarPlay using a wired connection was working perfectly through iOS 17.7.

After updating to iOS 18, the car no longer recognizes the phone.

Unpairing and repairing the phone in car system settings, unpairing car settings from CarPlay settings, using different (all genuine Apple) cords – none of these solutions work.

So I have to assume it's a bug/incompatibility issue with Carplay in iOS 18 and my car.

Hopefully someone from Apple will see this and point us towards a solution, or that Apple fixes the issue in the next iOS update.

I have the same issue (with two separate phones-13 and 15 ) and have tried all the suggested remedies, including voice shortcut disabling.

The weight of evidence suggests an IOS 18 issue and needs to be fixed ASAP

I am having the same issue. My BMW X5 (2021) won’t connect to my iPhone 15 Pro Max at all for CarPlay but I can get a Bluetooth connection. I’m on 18.1.1

my brother who hasn’t updated his iPhone can still connect via CarPlay to the car

No trouble with CarPlay and the iPhone 16 Pro Max for me (tested the wired connection just to be sure although I strictly use the wireless connection in my car). Unless it’s an issue like it was last year where the problem existed for specific car models/makes it may be either an issue with you cable you’re using or something with the phone specifically. If another iOS 18 device works fine in the same vehicle it’s unlikely to be an iOS issue in your case.

13 pro works perfect, 16 Pro will connect wired and CarPlay will work for about 5 minutes, I've made at least 5-6 chats and calls to support, done everything they asked. CarPlay might last 3-4 minutes then back to bluetooth. So I'll throw some $ and have firmware updated on Charger, if it works great, if it doesn't, the 16 pro is going back and I'll keep on with 13 pro. I'm sorry I bought the new watch and 16 pro, should have been happy with what I had and waited for all the bugs to. be worked out.
