CarPlay with iOS 18 Broken

I have an iPhone 16 Pro Max with iOS18, obviously. My iPhone no longer recognizes CarPlay. It will charge my iPhone but CarPlay never activates. My car only supports wired CarPlay.

my iPhone 13 Pro Max with iOS 18 still recognizes CarPlay. So, I’m not sure if it’s iOS 18, the iPhone 16, or a mixture of both.

Very weird. And I’m seeing reports about this all over forums and from friends. My wife’s iPhone 16 Pro Max also is not recognized on my CarPlay anymore either.

UPDATE:

After writing the response below , I saw a suggestion in another thread that turning off the VPN connection on my phone might solve the problem - and it did! Seemed like a counterintuitive solution to me but I'm not complaining.

Anyone still having the same problem might want to try disabling VPN on their phone, resetting all pairing settings, and trying again.

Keeping my original message below for search purposes in case anyone with the same specs as me is having this problem.

ORIGINAL RESPONSE:

Same issue here with my iPhone 15 Pro with iOS 18 on a 2019 Honda HRV Sport.

CarPlay using a wired connection was working perfectly through iOS 17.7.

After updating to iOS 18, the car no longer recognizes the phone.

Unpairing and repairing the phone in car system settings, unpairing car settings from CarPlay settings, using different (all genuine Apple) cords – none of these solutions work.

So I have to assume it's a bug/incompatibility issue with Carplay in iOS 18 and my car.

Hopefully someone from Apple will see this and point us towards a solution, or that Apple fixes the issue in the next iOS update.

OMG! That totally fixed it! Thank you, thank you, thank you! My issue with CarPlay was odd: when I plugged my phone in, the sound would only come out of the center console speaker, none of the other speakers around the car. To temporarily fix that, I would have to ask Siri a question and then cancel. 50% of the time that restored all of the speakers in the car. If it didn’t, and I tried to do it too often, then nothing worked at all! This fix, however, instantly restored full accessibility to my CarPlay. Again, thank you!

Can you quantify your assertion it is thousands of phones not working with CarPlay? Of course you can't. Not one person I know personally who is on iOS 18 is having any issues with CarPlay. I'm not doubting you're having issues, but your assertion it has to be iOS related, can't be substantiated. There are so many systems at play here, from so many car companies. And they may need to roll out an update to your infotainment system.

thats not a case that will work for everyone

for ex

i restored my device to factory settings and setted up as new. Not to take bugs from backup file. But does same

i already tried all suggested things and even more than we have here.

meanwhile my all other devices runnging ios 17 are working good..

but i have typically different issue

my carplay works fine. Before call arrives. As soon as call arrives. Doesnt makes sense it will be cellular or no. My carplay display freezes immediately and got no reactions . But as soon as i swith voice to airpods or loud speaker. Carplay display starts working and automatically presses all buttons that i used when it was freezed..

so i think better way to wait for an update, cause if not this regular steps wont work.. there is no other way to resolve this issue

It’s driving me completely crazy. I’ve tried everything, but ever since I updated to iOS 18, CarPlay no longer works with a cable. Sometimes it connects and then disconnects randomly.

I’ve also tried connecting it wirelessly, but there’s a huge delay. It’s impossible to use Google Maps because it freezes and then starts working again just after you’ve missed the exit…

Honestly, this is horrible. I’ve already tried resetting the network settings on my phone, etc

I think I’m having a related issue ever since updating to 18.1. Have tried deleting and re-pairing to no success. I have no vocal shortcuts enabled either. CarPlay worked perfectly prior to the update.

CarPlay won’t connect and even pairing, the icon will oftentimes not even show up.

Wondering if this is a known bug or if there are any other workarounds to try?
