Unknown devices in iPhone Health app

Hi all,

I noticed the device list in my Health app is full of unknown devices called plainly "iPhone" or "Apple Watch". If I tap one of the devices, it says "No data found" making it impossible to remove any of these.

I think that this has happened after iOS 18 update or when I migrated from my old iPhone 14 to 16 Pro. Already tried removing all health data from the app and reinstalling Health, but that did not help. Has anyone had similar issues?

iPhone 16 Pro, iOS 18

Okay, I kinda found a solution while fixing an unrelated issue with the Health app being slow, but many of you may not like it: it nukes your health data. But maybe somewhere in these steps I did might fix it.

what I did:

  1. Went to Settings>iCloud Account>Health and turned off “Sync this iPhone (or iPad) for all my devices. Selected “Turn Off”. Selected “Delete from My iPhone (iPad)”. This is where you can try to save your health data by selecting “Keep on My iPhone (iPad)”.
  2. Tapped “Manage Storage” and tapped “Delete Data From iCloud”
  3. Restarted each device to be on the safe side.
  4. re-enabled “Sync this iPhone (iPad)” on each device and I went into the Health app and noticed all the ghosts were gone.

Now I did this on all my devices that synced the Health app to iCloud, including my iPad. Hopefully y’all can figure out how to do this without going to the extreme of nuking your health data. Make sure you do steps 1-3 on all your devices before doing step 4.

I yesterday I paired a new Apple Watch Ultra 2 (watchOS 18) with my iPhone 14 Pro (iOS 18) and experience the very same. Many 'ghost' devices with the generic names 'iPhone' and 'Apple Watch' are generated.

So not only the Apple Watch, iPhone and my iPad are listed as Device/Source but also a zillion time 'iPhone" and 'Apple Watch'.

You can see the long list (it is actually growing) displayed here:

iPhone/Settings/Apps/Health App/Data Access & Devices/Devices

iPhone: Health App/Profile/Devices

I have contacted Apple Support and they advised me to turn off and toggle Health sync in iCloud settings on both my iPad and iPhone but that was not the solution.

Apple Support will call me back next week.

PS this list with devices/sources is buried deep in the Apple settings so normally people don't even see it...

I’ve noticed this too. My health app has been extremely slow/crashing across my devices and I went to delete some of the data and noticed this long list of ghost devices. List varies depending on the device, but they are listed as “iPhone”.

this screenshot is only a portion of the list. It even duplicated my actual iPhone once, as you can see.

Thank you very much for your solution.

yet het is not clear to me if All your health data is gone or Stil Available?

Again, I like to State that this setting/data is buried deep in de iOS en man people don’t even notice the issue.

It looks like we are not the only ones affected, I am sure that in this case the issue is caused by a bug in iOs 18.0.

Tomorrow, I have a call with AppleCare and Will See what they will come with..

I keep you All posted
