iPhone 16 Pro Max lagging after iOS 18 Update

I recently bought an iPhone 16 Pro Max and it is almost impossible to use. When I want to take a picture the phone constantly goes back to lock or appears a circle of death. In addition, when I want to search for something that starts with the letter "s" in "Siri suggestion" my iPhone but not only because my iPad also starts to lag. IOS 16 is currently impossible to use smoothly and effectively. Should I do something about my iPhone cameras or wait for the next update?

SOLVED: Just got off the phone with Apple support to talk about my identical issues. They had me reset my phone but only the “network settings”. It solved the lag and Siri problem.

I suspect a setting carried over from my previous phone in the automatic transfer, which was cleaned up at network setting reset.

I was able to fix my issues upgrading to 16 pro max . Mine kept crashing every few minutes. I replaced my phone once and restored 3 times. I noticed search was acting wonky so in desperation I dug into Siri settings. Lo and behold there was this “reset hidden suggestions” option. Boom!

It hasn’t crashed since, no lag, battery lasts almost two days.

Full disclosure I did also “reset all settings” as well but it crashed still after that, just not as much it seemed.

This needs to get moved to the top of the thread!!!!!

This solved all my crash issues as well. Easy fix and did not take long, may help a lot of people on this thread!

My phone is now working!

So after looking at the suggestions for a fix, I happily discovered that the reset worked perfectly for me. Suddenly Siri is working perfectly, there's no dictation lag, and I'm 100% happy with my phone. I strongly recommend this for everyone suffering lag on their 16 Pro Max (or possibly other models,) as this was a lifesaver for me. I'm sure other's have posted links, but here's a simple guide:

** Edit ** yeah, sure wouldn't want to share a youtube link that would help fellow users, would we, Apple? They removed my link, but here's the simple process:

  1. press the volume up, followed quickly by the volume down button
  2. press and HOLD right side button (top one, not camera button) until the screen goes blank followed by the apple logo reappearing. Then release. Done!

When I first for the new IPhone 16 Pro the lagging was horrible, but the first IOS18 update (not sure what number it was) and the second update iOS 18.0.1 (22A3370) fixed all of the issues I was having including the lagging. I’m now happy with my phone. I do have one issue, the fact the sold everyone on Apple AI “The phone made for AI” but they didn’t release the IA firmware. Even the commercials say we have AI but we don’t. They should be saying “The IPhone 16 built for AI which will not come with your phone and will be released later this year in an update!”

Nobody can tell you is apple aware of something.

Yes the lag is there is predictive text and all are stuff are on.

If you turn that thing down it gets better.

I think that it has to di something with apple inteligence , because if you change english us tipyng to lets say english uk , it gets wayyyyy snapier.

Remeber all those predicive txt and so on and so on , has to be turned of fir the moment.

The sam issue is on 15 pro max

For all you good people out there.

It will sound crazy , but just try this.

Go in keyboard setting , and on language , searh for english uk , not english us. Set the language on english uk and turn off all , predictive text and so on and so on , and just tell me is your keyboard faster 5 times , and your pro max screen way snapier.... But remeber , you have to set writing language to english uk , and do in settings reset keyboard. Let me know is it better

I honestly think apple well aware of the issue they came out hot fix 18.01 I think it just temporary patch, but I think they fix is going to be 18.1. But when that coming out?

I don’t think everyone is reporting the phone issue, a lot of us use our phone the fullest and some barely and some use it like an iPhone 8. Those ppl usually don’t report issue or not knowing it. Like my stepmom went from iPhone 8 to 16pro max, she not seeing issue, becuz she not like us coming from 14/15 to 16. iPhone 15 and 17.7 was perfect. Phone running best.

may be the 16 need that other feature open to run the best since is lock till 18.1 may be that’s the issue. That would make sense why apple haven’t fully fix the issue. I m exp like u guys, specially text i can click send 5 times wont send if i wait few second then it will. My wife try to send me txt her having so much issue where it will lag, i guess i will try the classic fully wipe then restore back up. But I don’t think it will fix the issue and the battery was amazing but 18.01 update have really start to kill battery like 15 pro max late update. I almost temp to do beta update just to see problem solve and able to use my phone, point of the phone issue to be friendly and consistent function. That’s what make apple, if i want a phone fast and awesome brand new and slow down and crash in a month or 2 I just got galaxy. And I own them before. But I guess we see when 18.1 cuz I think the fix be in it. They are not going to hot fix the phone.

I have all the same issues as discussed on this thread. This seems to be a hugely inefficient iOS issue causing all of these problems, especially the battery heat, and lag. I suspect this will be addressed in the upcoming 18.1 update, and in the meantime, I have set my max battery charge to 80% to help protect the battery. Apple better get this right or they will lose the trust of millions of consumers, much like Toyota has regarding reliability.

It's not always the iOS update's fault!  Many things can cause phone problems.  If you tell people you think it's an iOS update, it might make it harder to fix or find a solution for the real issue.

Remember, the right question often leads to the solution! Please look in the right direction.

iOS updates aim to enhance user experience, boost security, and fix bugs rather than disrupt core features. The majority of the issues after updates might stem from underlying, unmentioned factors. Updates won't typically alter personal data but may refine settings or features. Backup before major updates for safety. Review Apple's update details and backup advice for a smooth process.

Kindly consider checking your settings and addressing any device issues before attributing the issue to external factors. This could be a pure coincidence that the iOS update affected the iPhone functions.

Before initiating a standard iOS update, it's advisable to create a backup. Have you completed this step? If yes, proceed with the restoration from the backup.
