I would like to agree with your feedback but not everyone is experiencing the same issue with the same 3rd party apps so to me from an IT perspective,
From an IT perspective you are aware that each user has a different Social Graph used to build their profile. Data is gathered from posts that are liked, posts that are shared, data from the users where posts are shared, data from your contacts and their likes/shares. The effects are exponential and dramatically increase based on user engagement.
Users frequently relate any changes to an iOS update as they are well aware of when those occur and are less likely to pay attention to when Facebook is updated. With the 10 updates for bug fixes in just the last month, that is an average of about 1 in every 3 days that can easily coincide to appear to be due to the iOS update. Users have reported the same problem on different devices and even previous iOS versions after getting the Facebook updates.
The truth is that users on Android devices are experiencing the exact same thing. Ironically enough, they also assume it is from an OS update without putting any fault on Meta. Here is just a couple of recent posts on the Android platform showing the same problem.
To get an understanding of the data that Facebook is collecting about you and consuming your battery while doing it, you need to look no further than the Privacy Page in the App Store for Facebook where this information is disclosed. Facebook makes extensive use of Background Processes to consume the battery even when you are not using the app. All this information is used to build your Social Graph and each user will have different data points where the results will not be the same Data is sent to Meta and also Meta returns data to your device for recommendations and notification. Here is what Meta acknowledges that they are collecting:
- Health & Fitness
- Financial Info
- Contact Info
- Contact Names
- User Content
- Browsing History
- Usage Data
- Purchases
- Location
- Search History
- Diagnostics
