iPhone 16 Pro Battery Draining Quickly

Iphone 16 pro battery seems so poor. I unplugged my phone at 9:15 am and by 4pm it had only 32% with 3hrs of screen time. I did my 0.5gb update hoping it will extend baterry life and upgrade functionality of my iPhone.

How is it possible? Anyone experiencing bad battery life as well?

Here are a few insights from Apple Support’s official iPhone Battery Drain help page

Did you recently update your iPhone to a new version of iOS?

  • If you've recently updated your iPhone, battery life might drain faster than usual for a few days. Background tasks like indexing and syncing can temporarily affect performance, so give it time to stabilize.

Battery Suggestions

  • Auto-brightness: Enable auto-brightness to reduce battery usage.
  • Auto-lock: Activate auto-lock to prevent the screen from staying on unnecessarily.
  • Reduce Brightness: Lower your screen brightness if it's set too high.
  • Background Location: Limit location access for apps to "While in Use" to conserve power.

Battery Usage Overview

  • Check Activity & Battery Usage by App: Go to Settings > Battery to see which apps are using the most battery. Adjust settings for apps consuming excess power.

Other Battery Saving Tips

  • Use Wi-Fi: When possible, connect to Wi-Fi, as it consumes less battery than cellular data.
  • 5G Auto (iPhone 12 & later): Enable Smart Data mode to automatically switch between 5G and LTE to save power.
  • Low Power Mode: Activate this mode to reduce power consumption when the battery is low.

Battery Health

  • Check Battery Health: Go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health to see your battery’s condition. If "Service" appears, consider replacing the battery.

I had the same issue and here’s what worked for me:

First, I backed up my iPhone via iCloud. Then, I downloaded the non public version iOS. After that, I connected my phone to my Mac and selected the option to restore it, which wiped the whole phone data and reverted it to the normal, a public ios version. Finally, I restored my data using the iCloud backup.

This process resulted in a significant improvement in battery life.. almost doubling it

Look at your apps, Telegram, TikTok and Instagram are using over 50% of your battery capacity. All third party, non Apple apps. The telegram app forums are full of the same issue.

Please contact Telegram support team and ask when they’ll update their app to be optimized for iOS 18.x.x.

If you want to check usage, delete Telegram app for several days and check your battery usage then.

Update:

My battery life seems to have improved after one day. It looks like it has gone to “normal” now. I disabled the “Learn from this app” in the Apple Intelligence and Siri section for all the apps individually (except Apple mail, messages and maps). Not sure if this helped or the fact that a second full charge of the battery helped. I keep it on charge all night (and on standby). This is day 3 and I have been using my phone for last 1 hour and the battery is still 100% 🤩

Thank you very much for your both answers !!
But my battery is draining quickly even when I don’t use these apps… do you think that it’s linked ?

It makes no difference if you are actively using those apps, they are using background processes to consume your battery when you are not using them. They must be deleted, before you will see any difference.

Hello

True that 16 Pro battery is not ideal. But my situation has slightly improved I did two things:

  1. I switched off background refresh for all apps, and
  2. completely drained of the battery and 30 minutes later I charged it to full 100%.

it has improved but it is still not very good. If you do Any photo and video recording it doesn’t last a full day. iPhone 16Pro is a Huge disappointment.

I got my phone 16 pro like 2 months ago and it drops by one percent every 3 mins and it still shows 100 percent battery health pls help

Simply depends on the apps you have installed. Remove the power hungry apps and you will see a dramatic increase in battery life. There is a trade off in the amount of power the app uses and how long you want the battery to last. Post your Battery Usage by apps as others have done to identify those power hungry apps. I suspect the apps you have are the same as what the others have posted.

It is the apps you have installed that are consuming your battery and it makes no difference if it is a new phone or not. As others have done, it is easy to identify those apps and once removed, your issue goes away. That is clear in the screenshots posted by those users of the apps consuming the batter.

The identified apps are mostly those from Meta and other device platforms are experiencing the same problem as reported on the Google Support site. Once you identify the app, then you have a choice on whether you want to continue using the app knowing what it does with the battery consumption or not.

It is such a simple test to remove those apps and compare your results.

You can accept what you want and don’t want. Waiting for an update is essentially doing nothing. If you honestly believe your iPhone is defective then open a support ticket with Apple so the defect can be noted and tracked.

Your other option is to post your battery usage and activity by app. It will show you what apps are using your battery capacity. Once you know, take steps to remedy the situation. Stop using apps for a trial period and see if your battery usage improves.

Post you 24 hour and 10 day battery usage by app and activity by app. Here’s mine.

Just bringing this back on top of the thread. A new iPhone with draining battery symptoms seem to be due to background processes, settings, and simply the phone is still setting up and indexing things throughout the system. A few days of time should be enough for the iPhone to complete these tasks and start performing normally (as advertised).

I would like to agree with your feedback but not everyone is experiencing the same issue with the same 3rd party apps so to me from an IT perspective,

From an IT perspective you are aware that each user has a different Social Graph used to build their profile. Data is gathered from posts that are liked, posts that are shared, data from the users where posts are shared, data from your contacts and their likes/shares. The effects are exponential and dramatically increase based on user engagement.

Users frequently relate any changes to an iOS update as they are well aware of when those occur and are less likely to pay attention to when Facebook is updated. With the 10 updates for bug fixes in just the last month, that is an average of about 1 in every 3 days that can easily coincide to appear to be due to the iOS update. Users have reported the same problem on different devices and even previous iOS versions after getting the Facebook updates.

The truth is that users on Android devices are experiencing the exact same thing. Ironically enough, they also assume it is from an OS update without putting any fault on Meta. Here is just a couple of recent posts on the Android platform showing the same problem.

To get an understanding of the data that Facebook is collecting about you and consuming your battery while doing it, you need to look no further than the Privacy Page in the App Store for Facebook where this information is disclosed. Facebook makes extensive use of Background Processes to consume the battery even when you are not using the app. All this information is used to build your Social Graph and each user will have different data points where the results will not be the same Data is sent to Meta and also Meta returns data to your device for recommendations and notification. Here is what Meta acknowledges that they are collecting:

  • Health & Fitness
  • Financial Info
  • Contact Info
  • Contact Names
  • User Content
  • Browsing History
  • Usage Data
  • Purchases
  • Location
  • Search History
  • Diagnostics
