iPhone 16 Pro unexpectedly shutdown, and the screen became unresponsive.

I've had my phone for 2 days and I've had very few issues but just now it turned itself off and on again and now the touchscreen is COMPLETELY unresponsive. I just cannot use it at all. I can't restart it. I tried to force restart with the buttons but it told me it would call the emergency services so I quickly put a stop to that. Is anyone else experiencing this?? (and found a fix?)

You didn't use the correct procedure for Forced Restart

  1. Quickly press and release the volume up button
  2. Then immediately quickly press and release the volume down button
  3. Then immediately press and KEEP HOLDING the side power button. Keep holding it past the swipe to power down and KEEP HOLDING it until the Apple Logo appears (can take several seconds), THEN LET GO
  4. Once your phone restarts, you'll enter your passcode to get back in

It's surprising and frustrating for a new iPhone 16 Pro Max to shut off randomly, especially when it's not heavily used. I've used all previous iPhones and never experienced this issue before. This shouldn't happen with a new device, so it's worth checking for software updates or reaching out to Apple support for assistance. If the problem persists, they should do something about it or offer a refund—it's understandable to be upset.

Same here! I bought my iPhone 16 pro nearly 3 months ago and it shut down today out of the blue and automatically.

I forced the power button and it started working again!

I have some issues regarding camera and photos as well; sometimes when I want to switch between modes it hangs and shows me black screen. Sometimes when I am watching a video on photos, it freezes for few seconds.

What should I do? Should I return my phone??

I’m also experiencing the same issue with my iPhone 16 Pro Max unexpectedly shutting down. I contacted customer service, and they ran a diagnostic check for both hardware and software, but no issues were detected in the report. I’m currently using the latest version OS and I’m wondering if that might be contributing to the problem. Perhaps it would help if we shared which software versions we’re using to identify any common causes.

Your fix could possibly be in iOS 18.2 being released today. If it doesn’t resolve your issue, I’d suggest calling Apple Support and having remote diagnostics done on the device.

Apple iOS 18.2 public release is rolling out around the world in many (all?) countries today. I watched a video from someone in Australia an hour ago and he’d installed the update and reported that it resolved many of his issues. The article below explains how to update. The release time in your area may not have occurred yet. You will just need to check the update option in your iPhone.
