iPhone 16 pro Video Sound Recording Issues

Hello,

I just purchased a new iPhone 16 pro. I am a band director, and I frequently record videos of my band's performances from the press box of our football stadium. After recording a video of their performance this evening, I tried to watch it and noticed that the sound fades and in and out, and is often distorted at loud volumes. Is this a hardware or software problem, and are there any settings I can alter to record better audio?

Thank you for any help you can provide.

I purchased iPhone 16pro, it doesn’t record voice while filming in all modes ( normal, cinematic…) , totally mute!

is it software or hardware issue?

Serious audio issues, especially while recording. Even the voice memo is muffled while using the headphones. At first I thought it was the USB C to 3.5mm Jack adaptor and returned it. However a different make and the USB C headphones have the same distortion. I have tried to keep the Mono Audio on, moved spatial to stereo, and finally restarted the phone, but the distortion remains.

I am also having audio issues when I play back videos I recorded and saved to my camera roll some have sound and some don’t and when I send the ones that don’t to another I phone user (11 pro) they are able to play the video with the sound. This is very frustrating I should have just stayed with my 11 pro. I’m also having issues with stickers used on texting I can’t save any stickers and all my old stickers didn’t transfer to my new phone.

UPDATE! Was able to fix by turning on Mono Audio saw it on Reddit post and worked!

I went to the Apple Store this morning for this exact issue and also talked to Apple tech support by phone. They ran a diagnostic on my phone and proclaimed that everything was fine, but my video recordings still sound terrible. I notice that when I adjust the sound in Spatial Audio, if I go to the left, it sounds OK, but to the right sounds choppy and cuts in and out. Voice memos sound fine, so it seems like it might be a software issue? Since I have AppleCare, they're sending me a new phone. I hope that solves the problem - I'll let you know.

I have the same problem.

Shot 3 video clips (in Stereo) and tried to edit the audio to isolate background and didn't work and eventually appeared to have lost all audio and left with 3 completely silent video clips!

Exported the "silent" audio to LumaFusion on my iPad Pro and LumaFusion appeared to show that only the Left track audio remained.

What is going on Apple!?!?

Well, the video works now, I think? Reason being that I shot videos with it and the audio appears okay.

HOWEVER, the camera would fail to engage randomly as follows:

Camera app would open for 1 second or so …

The screen would then go black for 1 second or less …

The phone would then switch to the home screen automatically.

I would have to restart the phone for this problem to go away.

I contact Apple support as it is a new phone - iPhone 16 Pro Max - and I would hope everyone here who still have Apple Care on their phones to contact Apple Support for a real solution. Apple has NOT offered me a solution as I could not repeat the above problem while talking to them because the problem is random and I could not invoke the issues above myself.

Since the iPhone 3G, I could not recall an iPhone I owned which have the same degree of problems.

Yes, it happens to me too with my new iPhone 16 Pro Max. The problem arises when recording with the Spatial Audio feature enabled, and the very important thing I’ve noticed is that the audio quality drops drastically when you tilt the phone more than 45 degrees. This is likely because in Spatial mode, it uses multiple microphones and creates a conflict. If you want to record with an external microphone (such as the DJI Mic2), you need to switch from Spatial Audio mode to stereo mode in the camera settings; otherwise, you won’t be able to record audio. This is a serious issue for a phone that costs nearly 2,000 Euros—let’s hope Apple resolves the situation immediately.
