Siri not responding on iPhone 16 Pro Max

As title says, Siri is not working. It only works if I press the side button, not by me saying "hey siri" etc.

I have turned siri off and back on again and done the 5 phrases to set it up and still nothing. I have changed the language, changed the voice, changed to prefer spoken response' and still nothing.

Obviously on IOS18.

Has anyone else had this issue because it is driving me mad. £1,400 for a phone and it doesn't work properly!

iPhone 16 Pro Max, iOS 18

I went to settings>siri and tried everything suggested. Didn’t fix the problem. But when I went to settings> accessibility> Siri (at the bottom under “general”) and turned on “always listen for Siri” it fixed it. I also turned on “listen for atypical speech”. Sometimes I mumble so i figured it ight help to have on too. Hope this helps someone

I tried the first three solutions from this article on how to fix Siri not responding on iPhone 16 and 16 Pro Series. However, when I reached the fourth step, I realized that Siri and dictation were disabled in my content privacy restrictions, I enabled it but still that haven't solved the issue, I went ahead to Settings > Siri > talk to Siri and there swtich to "hey siri" from “Siri” or “Hey Siri”, to which a Enable Siri popup appear, i enabled it and now its working absolutely fine.

So I’m one of the ones that posted that Siri wasn’t working on my 16 Pro Max. So I finally decided to go into the settings for Siri. There is a setting that says “talk to Siri”. When I hit that, it showed that Siri was turned off. As soon as I turned it on to “ Siri or hey Siri”, it works just fine now. So everyone should go check their settings.

Siri worked just fine for my iPhone 13 Pro Max. If the settings were supposed to be the same when I switched from that to the 16, I don’t understand why Siri was not left on.

I just upgraded to the 16 Pro Max a week ago and my Siri has working just fine up until today. It will work when I say hey Siri, but it would only work when I use the side button I went under settings to accessibility and then to voice commands, and that was turned off, I turned the voice commands on, and it is working perfectly since, You may want to try that :)

I had the same issues. Tried most fixes, they didn't work. I was about to take the phone to Apple store but my husband rather patronisingly asked me to disable Siri and then enabled it. When I enabled it, I had to go through the setting up Siri process like you do when you first enable Siri on a new phone (speaking those phrases to siri out loud). After that Siri has worked hands free without the side button. It is also worth noting I had updated my software to 18.2 so I have the new Siri with chat gpt function now.

Everyone needs to make sure Siri is turned on.

Go to settings - Siri - Talk to Siri

I had no issues talking to Siri before I upgraded my 13 Pro Max to the 16 Pro Max. I don’t know why when I went to the settings for Siri, I did not know it was turned off until I clicked on “Talk to Siri”. The checkmark was on off. When I clicked on “Siri or Hey Siri” we just essentially turned it on. It’s been 3 to 4 days with no problems with it. So I would suggest everybody go check their settings.

The one thing I haven't seen many people saying they tried is a complete reset of the phone. When I had mine replaced with a new one after a week, I did not restore the content of the old phone over during the new setup, I skipped that and set it up default. I used it for two days that way and had zero issues with Siri on 18.01. Then I migrated my content from the old phone to the new and still didn't have any problem. And then updated to 18.1 and still no issues.

I can't say for certain if it was the whole new phone replacement, or just because I set it up default at first without migrating content, but I'd try to do a full wipe and setup again without content migration, and try that for a couple days. Of course, make sure you either have a backup or all the data on a different phone.

EVERYONE!! I FOUND THE PROBLEM WITH SIRI NO RESPONDING WITH VOICE!!!! It's NOT a software glitch. Turn OFF Apple Intelligence! Every other setting should be good (prefer spoken responses etc.) I did trial and error several times just to be sure and yes, sure enough....when Apple Intelligence is on, Siri will not respond with voice text. As soon as you turn it off, it works just as normal. Hope this helps you all
