Siri not responding on iPhone 16 Pro Max

MAJOR safety risk as Siri doesn’t work while driving. I tried again this morning and Siri did not work and I have to pick the phone up and access Contacts. Will Apple Pay our tickets for handling a phone while driving?

This was happening to me. I just got off the phone with Apple Tier 2. We changed the setting in Siri > Siri Responses from Automatic to Prefer spoken responses, and it's working fine. It is NOT happening JUST on 16 Pro Max. I checked my 2018 iPad and it was doing the same thing and not responding with voice (hardly use it any more). This Automatic setting is a new thing in iOS and iPad OS and it got set to be the default during the last update.

We will see if it sticks. I'm sure this is due to updates getting ready for the so-called AI that's supposed to come out with the 18.1 update on October 28. I am very concerned this is happening to so many people and that a lot of people are reporting that none of the fixes work for long. Best thing to do is see what happens with the 18.1 update. If it's still a big issue for many users, I suspect someone will be starting a class-action against Apple if they remain tight-lipped about it. Siri is, after all, a staple reason many people use an iPhone and should just work and never have an issue like this.

@NolaMomOf2 That's a good idea, and it can work. And it's one of the things I tried. But...here I have a $1500 iPhone which doesn't work properly with Siri, and I have to butcher a function of the button to make it work maybe for a little while?I use both the button at times and voice, so it's really not an acceptable solution to basiclly disable one thing to make another work.

p.s. I am going to the Apple store tomorrow to get this replaced, and I will let people know if a new one has the same issues. I suspect it will have, but I have a right to a replacement within 14 days, so that's what's gonna happen.

Spending that much money on iPhone 16 Pro Max and having it fail at basic task that my iPhone 12 had no problems with ever is embarrassing.

I switched from a Windows and Android setup to all Apple seven years ago because I felt that it offered a better user experience. I am seriously contemplating switching back, as Apple ecosystem seems to just “doesn’t work” anymore.

This has been the thing affecting me most as well. I didn't realize just how much I used Siri each day while driving until it was no longer working.

Yup. I spoke too soon. Worked perfectly for a few days and now is completely inactive. Super frustrated by it.

Every suggestion here works temporarily. That is the problem, nothing works consistently. It is a bug and needs to be fixed by Apple.

What is the fix? More importantly, has it worked continuously for more than a day or two? The problem with all of the fixes so far is that they are only temporary. Thank you.

All of the fixes are only temporary, and the fact that multiple people are trying multiple "fixes" is just further proof that this is a bug Apple needs to fix. Pretty please, Apple!!

A modest suggest: Please do not report any more "fixes" unless and until your Siri works properly for a week.

Settings, Siri. If you have updated to 18.1 it is Settings, Apple Intellegence & Siri.

I’m having the exact same issue

I changed my Siri option from the first “Hey Siri or Siri” to the second optionjust “hey Siri.” Seems to be working so far.

I tried to update but there wasn’t anything and a reboot did not fix either.

mine already set to this.

has worked fine since purchase and now today it’s failed every time.

I’ve come from a 13 pro max that worked perfectly for 2 years and use 50 times a day making phone calls on the road.
